Bella P.O.V

I roll on my side only to find an empty bed. I sit up immediately and look around the room. Edward is nowhere to be seen. I grab my robe and wrap it around my waist and walk out of the room. The hallways of the house were silent, very silent. I slowly make my way down the large set of stairs and I see my father and Emmett talking with Alexander.

"Good morning, Gentlemen," I said as I walked down the stairs.

"Bella, good morning." Emmett walked over to me and grabbed my hand. "How are you feeling?"

"As good as it can be expected," I answered looking around the room. Edward was nowhere to be seen. "Where's my husband?"

Papa looked at Emmett then back at me. "Honey, he left earlier this morning."

"Will you tell me where he went?" I ask.

He nodded. "Yes, of course. We'll discuss it over breakfast if you want." I nod in response.

"Alright, breakfast is already served," Alexander said with a forced smile that didn't reach his eyes. They all acted very weird, very tensed.

Alexander's family and mine were gathered in dinning room when we entered. At first, everyone was silent and just ate their breakfast but the atmosphere in the room was heavy and filled with tension. After a while, I decided I couldn't take the silence anymore.

"How come Edward left already?" I asked, placing my fork and knife down. "He was supposed to stay for another three days. Why did he leave over night?" I'm not going to hide the fact that it anger me that Edward left just like that. It infuriates me.

Carlisle cleared his throat and said, "He came because it was essential for him to secure your future and the future of your child."

I raise an eyebrow. "Can you be a little more clear please?"

He sighed. "Bella, the troops are heading in direction to Seattle today. We think Jacob's troops might meet up with ours halfway through the journey. Word was sent earlier that Jacob planned to attack today."

I swallow. "So they fight today?"

"We certainly hope it does not come to those terms," Alexander said. "I talked with Edward before he left this morning. We both do not want innocent blood to be spilled. I told him that, in my opinion, in order to spare the lives of many men and spare the pain to their families is if he comes to an agreement with Jacob."

I shake my head. "But that won't stop him. Even if Edward tells Jacob that I'm latched to him for all eternity, Jacob won't listen. See how Martin's family ended. He killed his wife and daughter... Jacob won't want to come to an agreement. He wants blood, he wants to make a statement to everyone."

"He will try," Alexander said. "He said he would but he did make it clear that if Jacob wants battle, battle he will get."

Of course he would. Now, there's something that needs to be cleared here also.

"What about Martin? What happened with him? And please, tell me everything I need to know in order to understand what is happening," I plead. "I need to know."

"What do you want to know?" Papa asked.

"Well, first thing is first, what happened? I mean when I asked about him in Portland and you all lied saying he was hunting but he never came back," I said.

Papa nodded. "Okay but I have to ask you first, do you think you're well enough for me to break this news to you?"

"I'm fine."
