Bella P.O.V
"Does this mean you believe me?" He asked against my lips. I don't answer, I'm too busy feeling his lips against mine. He pulls away and looks at me in the eyes. "Bella?"
I immediately snap back to reality. No, no, just a kiss won't let me change my mind. I push Edward away, wiping the feeling of his lips from mine even when I still feel him. I shake my head and walk away. I can't let him think I'm weak, that I'll fall on my knees for him.
I lock the door of my room and lean against it. I can't let it happen. That kiss never happened. I never kissed him. It was all just a dream. I'm dreaming, I have to be dreaming and I need to wake up and snap back to reality. I need to wake up the morning of the ball and go there and find out he was never there. I have to, I can't let him take over my life again.
There's a slight knock on my door that makes me jump. "Who is it?" I ask trying to control my breathing.
"Open the door, Isabella." It's Edward. No! I back away from the door and sit on the bed, digging my nails on the bed. He knocks, again. "Isabella, please open the door."
"Go away, Edward." I tried to sound decisive and rude but instead it came out weak and breathless.
"Can we talk? Please?" He asked trying to open the door. "Please, Isabella, I want us to talk."
"There's nothing to talk, Edward," I said, digging my nails deeper in the bed. "And, if we did talk how do I know you're telling the truth?"
"Isabella, I wouldn't lie to you," he said. I snorted and crossed my arms. "Isabella, please."
"If I do, would you answer with the truth?" I asked. I don't know why I'm asking this, he already told me what I needed to know about why he left, what else am I missing?
"I promise." The desperation in his voice makes my heart shrink. I stand up and unlock the door. Once he hears the click he walks in, closing the door behind him.
He looks around my room and back at me. I take a step back, the back of my knees touching the edge of the bed. I can't be near him. I'm just a foot away and I feel like I want to wrap my arms around him again and kiss him, but I can't.
"What was that out there?" He asked.
I cross my arms. "I should be asking you that, you were the one who kissed me first."
He chuckled. "You kissed me back."
"That has nothing to do with this, I need answers, Edward!" I walk away and put my hands on my hips. "I already know why you left but answer this, was it you that day at the meadow? The day of the ball."
He nodded. "Yes, it was me. I wanted to visit it once we arrived, I expected to find you there but once I saw you... I couldn't believe my eyes."
This makes my anger grow bigger. "You were there! And you didn't do anything to say something after so many years? You turned around and left, again, Edward. You were there, I followed... How come I've been so foolish."
"Would you calm down, Lady! I didn't know what to do, what to say, Isabella. It's been so many years, I didn't know if you would hate me." He walked around and ran his hands through his hair. He suddenly stopped and looked to me. He looks pained at whatever he's thinking. "You hate me, don't you?"
His question takes me with my guard down. Do I hate him? I don't feel like I hate him but I don't know if I can trust him. I don't want to be dragged into another fairy tale and be broken once again if he leaves. That's my fear, losing him all over again.
"I don't hate you, Edward. I... I just don't know if I can trust you again." I take a deep breath and add, "I don't want to end up hurt again, last time I couldn't bare the pain."
