Edward P.O.V

I get off my horse, ignoring the glare Kevin gives me and walk to the center of the small space between us. Jacob looks at me with a smirk on his pathetic face. Oh, how would I love to wipe that smirk off his face right now. I look at Martin only to see his expression is emotionless.

"Jacob, I'm sure you and I can come to some sort of agreement to prevent any deaths from happening," I said. It was hard at first trying to consider what Alexander told me to do. Trying to reason with Jacob Black cannot be any easy but I could at least try.

Jacob laughed. "So you're the voice of reason now? The man who pledged to kill me."

"Well, it is against my better judgment but it is worth a shot," I reply.

He nodded. "Where would you like to negotiate, my friend?"

"You see, you got me wrong there," I chuckled. "I don't want to sit down and have a beer with you, Jacob. We're not friends. We'll negotiate here with our men as witnesses." I pause, looking at Martin. "Though I sure doubt some of you here are real men."

Martin glares at me but doesn't say anything.

"Alright," Jacob said. "Let's negotiate but no little tricks, Edward, because I'll notice and I will kill you."

"The same goes to you, Jacob."

"Fine. I want the girl back."

I laugh. "No, that's not going to happen."

"I thought you wanted to negotiate," Jacob snapped. "That's what I want."

"Well, you see the girl is not yours to take back and we're not here to negotiate you taking her back. We're here to negotiate you leaving her alone once and for all. You've caused nothing but pain to her and her family and she wants this to end."

"That's where you're wrong. We made a deal, she lost and the deal was that if she lost, she married me."

"You cheated in the game."

He shrugged. "Everything is valid when you're fighting for love."

I glare at him. "You do not love her. Do you think the treatment you gave her and her people is valid of love. Destroying her home and killing innocent people, kidnap her and threaten to kill her."

He shrugged. "I do things my own way, Cullen. Now that's my end of the deal. Give her back to me and no one will die."

"How about you disappear from our lands, leave her alone and we will not disclose anything about you and your negligence on your people to your partners in trade."

Jacob shook his head. "No deal. I want my bride."

"She's not yours to take anymore, Jacob," I reply.

"I'm afraid you're wrong," Jacob said with a smirk. "By this time my men are in Oregon getting what's mine."

What? No, no, no. Out of a sudden impulse, I take my sword out and launch myself to him. I ignore Kevin, along with many others of my men yelling my name as I attempt to strike Jacob. Except I'm stopped by Martin.

"Step back," he growls.

"He's going to kill her," I tell him low enough for him to hear.

"Not if I can prevent it."

"Then do it," I spit at him.

"Martin," Jacob said as he gets off his horse. "Finish him."

"I will." Martin pushes me off him and swings his sword out.
