Chapter 16

I raced out after Maggie with Deanna up in front of us. Non of us knowing what on earth was going on. As we ran a couple of others joined us until we reached the van, where Glenn was frantically waving his arms around.

The back doors were open with Eugene standing in the gap reaching in for something. Deanna stood talking to Glenn as me and Maggie walked around to see what was going on. As we peered inside the van we knew straight away what to do.

"Someone go get Pete or Briana." I called out to the crowd that had gathered. "Maggie help me with this." I told her as Nicholas jumped out of the back and I knelt next to Tara.

She was lying on the bottom of the van with a bandage around her head, covered in blood. Whatever had happened there'd need to be some explaining to do. I applied pressure to the bloody area as Maggie placed an old pillow under her head to slow down the blood flow.

If I've learnt anything from being in the apocalypse then it's how to deal with something like this whilst waiting for people who know what they're doing. It also helps having Maggie with me as Hershal must've taught her a thing or two.

It didn't take long before Pete and Briana came running down the road along with Molly. I jumped out of the van and allowed Pete to take over with Briana and Molly to assist.

I looked around for a second not realising before that Aiden and Noah were missing. "Where's Aiden and Noah?" I ask which caused everyone to go silent.

Deanna looked at me then towards Glenn Eugene and Nicholas. "Where are they?" Deanna repeated.

Glenn and Nicholas both looked at each other for a moment before looking back to the rest of us. Eugene staring at the both of them. Glenn shook his head. "They're dead." He turns his head to glare at Nicholas.

Deanna shakes her head before falling to her knees staring at the van. Maggie goes over to her and I stand speechless. How'd this happen? Why'd this happen?

After a couple of minutes Maggie was able to pull Deanna to her feet. All of us sharing our emotions whilst Pete, Briana and Molly take Tara to the infirmary whilst being followed by Eugene.

"You two. Come with me." Deanna snarls at Glenn and Nicholas with tears in her eyes as she and Maggie walk back to the house. Me walking at the back.

Once there Deanna sits down in the living room with Glenn and Nicholas standing before her and both me and Maggie head into the kitchen. I wash Taras blood from my hands and Maggie does the same. I still can't believe Noah's gone. I didn't get a chance to know Aiden very well but Noah was there to help Beth and because of that Beth could help me along with Molly. I can't imagine how she feels. Having saved him, now he's gone.

I go back into the living room with Maggie to find Deanna setting up a camera and Glenn sitting in the armchair where we first had our interviews. It was clear what she was doing.

"Do you need us for anything?" Maggie asked.

"You can go home." She replied, not taking her eyes from Glenn and her tone the same.

Me and Maggie looked at one another and then to Glenn who nodded. We then walked out of the house and stopped on the porch.

"I cant believe he's gone." Maggie sighed. A single tear falling from her eye.

"Me neither." I replied.

We shared a hug allowing ourselves to let our emotions run. Me and Maggie were family. Before and after. We haven't really had time to connect but working together could be our chance to get closer.

"I'm going to see how Tara's doing." I spoke after a while as the sun was beginning to set. "You coming?"

"I'm gonna wait for Glenn." She forced a smile.
