Daryls pov

As we kept going all that was going through my mind was getting back. It was all I could think about. If half the herd's broken off, then they're going to need as much help as possible, no matter what.

"Hey!" I yelled over to Abrahams open window. "We gone five miles out yet?"

"Give or take some yardage. You got a reason for asking?" Abraham asked.

"Next intersection we're gonna spin around and go back." I told them. I figured if the walkers are far enough away they won't follow us back. With whatever's happening, they might need us there.

"The plan is to go fifteen more." Sasha glanced over from the wheel.

"Yeah. I'm gonna change that. Five's gonna have to work." I confirmed.

Abraham shook his head. "The magic number's twenty. That's the mission. That's making sure they're off munching on infirm raccoons the rest of their undead lives instead of any of us."

"You wanna go we can't stop you, but without you, they could stop us." Sasha shouted from the wheel again.

What they were saying made sense, but Lily is still back there and nothing is going to change that. I glanced back at the walkers before looking forward and spotting a sign for Alexandria. They needed us. If Sasha and Abraham are insisting on going forward then I can't stop them, but I know what I'm doing. "Na. I got faith in you."

I started to speed up and pass them as they both shouted my name and told me not to go but I had to. If not, we risk someone else dying. They have it in them to keep going. This was only supposed to be a dry run but it's now or never.

Soon enough I came up to the intersection and started to make my way back. In the back of my mind hoping I'd made the right decision to leave Sasha and Abraham. If they can keep going and get the herd to the twenty mile mark on their own, then we might be able to salvage the plan.

"Rick. It's Glenn." Glenns voice came over the radio. "We're in a town five degrees east of the green marker. If you get around on Redding in the next twenty minutes, you should be good. I think that's how far we've got ahead of the herd. I'm gonna try distract them. If you don't see smoke, they're still coming your way. I've got to go. Good luck dumbass."

Whatever Glenn has in mind, it better work. If not then we've got ourselves a bigger problem than just leading them away. It's just a matter of time before everything goes to shit if it hasn't already.

As I kept going the same thoughts were going over and over in my mind. Wondering how far the herd was. Wondering where everyone else is. Wondering if Alexandria is safe or if Sasha and Abraham are alright. I couldn't risk getting a hold of Rick or he'd know I went against him and I was on my way back.

After about half an hour driving back down the road, Ricks voice came over the radio. "Glenn. I'm in place by my best guess. You guys make it back yet?" There was a silence on the radio as it just crackled. "Glenn?" There was another silence. "Tobin. You there?" Silence. "Daryl?"

"I'm here." I reached my hand up to the radio.

"Won't be long now. They're almost here. I'll get them going your way again." Rick informed.

"How about that Daryl. He's gonna be coming our way." Sasha sarcastically spoke down the radio. Though I don't think Rick caught onto what was going on.

"There's gunfire coming from back home." Rick suddenly changed the subject. His words sent shivers down my spine. "We've got to sit with it. Hope they can handle it. I think they can. They have to. We keep going forward for them. Can't turn back because we're afraid." Rick told us.
