Daryl's pov

As Rick rolled out of the gate, I folded up the paper Eugene had given us and slid it into my pocket. The list and the one item Denise had asked me to get, stuck in my mind. I figured after everything she's done for us, for Carl, I was gonna do my best to try and find it. I knew that's what Rick and Lily would do.

"Today's the day." Rick then said, breaking my train of thought as we pulled out onto the main road. "We're gonna find food. Maybe some people. The law of averages has got to catch up."

I shook my head. "I don't know. We ain't seen nobody for weeks. Maybe we ain't gonna find nobody. Maybe that's a good thing." I told him as I thought about how tight the community is now, about how it's taken this long to get this far. Why mess things up now. After all, there are bad people out here and it just took me getting tied up with a gun to my head back in that burnt out forest to remember. I wasn't going to put anyone back home into any danger by bringing someone like him back to the community.

That was when I spotted Rick doing something out of the corner of my eye and I turned my head to see he was getting one of his CDs out of the case. "Don't." I begged, but he didn't listen as he slid the CD into the CD player on the dash board. "Don't. Please don't."

Rick just looked at me and began smiling as the music started to play. He then turned up the volume and began clicking his fingers to the beat. It was like sitting in my own torture and in that moment, it had me wishing I'd stayed back home instead of having to listen to whatever it was Rick listened to. It was awful.

Rick must've seen the look on my face as he began laughing and wound the windows down a little. "Draws them away from home!" He yelled over the music, still smiling. I just shook my head and scoffed as I looked out of my window, watching the treeline as we made our way down the road.

There was a few minutes of silence between Rick and I as I pulled out the map Eugene had given us. By the look of it, that Sorghum place was just a little ways further down on the right. All I had to do until then was ignore Rick as he continued clicking his fingers and dancing along to the music.

Thankfully, it wasn't too long before we came up to the turning, but with Rick being so distracted by his music, we drove right passed. He soon realised and slammed down on the breaks, before reversing back up the road and taking the turning.

He then pulled up next to a small building and the second the music stopped, I felt like I could finally hear myself think again.

Taking our time, we both climbed out of the car and quickly went around the building, checking the place for any walkers. The last thing we wanted was to get ambushed, especially with that music. It would've drawn them in for miles, but luckily for us, it was all clear. All that was left was a large shutter door.

I pulled my bag off and took out my crowbar, making my way over to the door. I then jammed it under the shutter, but before I could do anything, I noticed Rick beginning to head behind the building. "Hey. Hold up." I called over. Neither of us knew what was inside and I wouldn't be quick enough on my own. "It's best to be safe. You cover it?"

"Yeah." Rick nodded and stood to the side of me with his gun out and ready, pointing it at the shutter.

Rick then nodded again, letting me know he was ready and I yanked on the crowbar, forcing the shutter open, jumping back in the process just in case something was in there.

"Yeah, we're good." Rick announced as he checked inside. There was nothing but a large white van. "One more time." He pointed to the shutter on the back of the van.

I nodded, but just as I went to shove the crowbar under the door, I noticed it wasn't locked. "It ain't locked." I glanced back at Rick and he readied his gun.
