I lay on the ground for a second and covered my head as the rubble fell down around me. My vision blurred and I was lost for breath. The remains of the tower laying in the street next to me bringing down two of the panels with it.
My vision soon became clear, but I couldn't see anything as the dust filled the streets. Instead, I sat up and looked around me to see Spencer half under one of the panels, unable to move. I quickly jumped to my feet, stumbling slightly as my head began to spin. All I could her was my heart beating in my ears and the mumbled voices of the others slowly becoming clear.
"Spencer!" I shook him. He was breathing. Then I heard them.
My head shot up and I saw the walkers making their way around the tower. They were all becoming clear as they appeared through the dust, making their way towards us. It was at that moment Spencer coughed and looked up at me. "Lily..."
"Lily! Spencer! Get out of there!" I heard someone yell, but the dust prevented me from being able to see them. I just assumed it was Rick but I wasn't going to protest.
"Spencer, quickly. Get up." I moved around him so that I could slightly lift the panel. The walkers getting uncomfortably closer.
He did as I said and grunted as he slid himself out where I quickly dropped the panel and helped him to his feet. "This way." I yelled as the walkers were now within an arm's length of reaching us. A second longer and we'd be one of them.
"Everyone. Get back. Get into your houses. Go!" I heard Rick yell. Gun fire was then soon to follow as we ran down the street.
Spencer wrapped his arm around my shoulder as he limped down the road. Me, having my own around his torso to help him balance. The walkers way too close for my liking.
With my free hand I pulled my gun from my belt and glanced over my shoulder to fire a shot. I had to make sure I got Spencer into one of the houses before they could reach us. I didn't care whose house it was, I just knew I had to get there and fast. I didn't have enough bullets to keep running. They'd surely catch up to us by then.
I could feel the adrenaline rushing through my body as I fired another shot, over my shoulder, at a walker closest to us. Its place immediately being taken over by another.
"There!" Spencer suddenly pulled my attention back in front of us where I then made a dash for the nearest house.
I pushed open the door, pushing Spencer in front of me, before I ran in behind. As I did, I tried slamming the door closed but they were already too many of them pushing on the other side of it, trying to get in. I couldn't close it. "Spencer!" I yelled breathlessly. "Find something to block the door."
"What!" He yelled back as my feet began sliding on the carpet. Dirty, rotten fingers creeping around the side of the door
"Anything!" I grunted.
I turned back to the door and continued pushing on it to keep it close but I couldn't hold it. "Here. Move." Spencer ordered as he pushed a sofa in front of the door and helped me close it.
Once closed, we stepped back and watched the hands banging against the glass. "You saved my life." I looked over at him, fighting to catch my breath.
"You saved mine. Call it even." He glanced in my direction, also out of breath.
As I looked over at him, I noticed a large cut going from his forehead to the corner of his eye. "Your head. Sit down. I'll see what I can find."
I made my way into the kitchen and started looking through the cupboards for anything I could use. Nothing. "Did you see my mum? Sid she get out?" He called from the other room. I didn't reply. I just closed the last draw and glanced through the window at the walkers that had now filled the streets. "Lily?" I jumped back before quickly closing the curtains as walkers started clawing at the window. "Lily!" He was now yelling.
