"You'll be alright."
"No!" I yelled as I ran towards Daryl. The tears beginning to roll down my cheeks.
Almost immediately, Dwight looked up, turning his attention from Daryl to me, and held his gun back in my direction. Someone else coming in from the side and tackling me to the ground before I could reach him. Whoever it was pushing my head down, hard, into the dirt and leaves, pulling both my hands behind my back. By the look on his face, I don't think Dwight expected I'd be able to get free. If he did, I don't think I would've gotten this far before being caught.
I turned my attention back to Daryl. My whole body shaking as he lay on the ground not moving. From where I was, I couldn't see if he was dead or alive and it felt like I could hardly breathe, my heart feeling as though it was about to beat out of my chest. I just needed to know. I needed to know he was okay.
As the seconds turned into minutes, all I kept thinking about was what lead us here. The last thing we'd said to one another. The disagreement we had about him being out here when I knew how much he didn't want to stop looking. Our whole journey playing out in my mind from the farm, to our break up, to the prison, Woodbury, our miscarriage, Terminus, out on the road, to Alexandria, to now. How we both agreed that the reason we didn't work out the first time was because of how rushed everything was back then. We weren't those people anymore. He wasn't. We'd come so far to have it all taken away so quickly.
The next thing I knew, I was pulled onto my knees by my hair and Dwight was now standing in front of me. He laughed, looking between both Daryl and myself. "You and him? I didn't take him to be the type." He mocked as he trailed his thumb across my face, wiping my tears. I just kept my eyes firmly on Daryl. I wasn't going to give him the satisfaction. "I thought you were gonna play nice?" I still didn't answer. "Listen, you try somethin' like that again and I'll kill him. Then I'll kill Glenn and Michonne, then Rosita, then you. That what you want? To watch them die ugly?"
I didn't dare say anything, but as he finished speaking, I saw Daryl's fingers twitch, followed by a groan. He was alive.
I couldn't help it and let out a sigh of relief as Dwight made his way back over to him, placing his foot on Daryl's wounded shoulder, picking up his crossbow. Daryl grunting from the pain. "Put her back with the others and make sure she stays there. Tie that one up too." He then ordered as he pointed at me and Rosita.
The person behind me then roughly tied my hands back together and put the gag back in my mouth, tightening it, before dragging me back over to Glenn and Michonne. Another of the Saviors doing the same to Rosita as Dwight pulled Daryl to his feet, applying a bandage to his shoulder and forced him into the back of a van.
As the doors closed, I glanced over at Glenn, Michonne and Rosita. Every part of me screaming to get free. It taking all the strength I had not to. The last thing I wanted was to get one of us killed by 'not playing nice' as Dwight called it. I didn't know what they were capable of and I couldn't be the reason one of us didn't make it. We just had to sit and wait it out. Hope that sooner or later we'd be able to take our chances, kill all these men and get Daryl the medical attention he needs.
We sat there for a little while longer before Dwight and a few others came towards us. They dragged us all to our feet and walked us over to the van, where Dwight had previously left Daryl. Then the same man who'd slapped me before removed the gag from my mouth. A wicked smirk on his face before opening the door.
Inside, Daryl was sat leaning on the back wall with a blanket wrapped around him and my heart sank. It looked as though he was seriously struggling to even sit up. That was when the man behind me cut the zip tie around my wrists and shoved me inside. The other men doing the same to Glenn, Michonne and Rosita.
