CHAPTER 2
I open my eyes to notice that Peeta is gone. He's probably had an attack and left. I wrestle the sheets off my legs and my feet touch the cold hard wood floor. I put on a pair of thick socks then walk down the stairs. When I walk into the living room I see Haymitch and Peeta at the chess table, laughing slightly.
"Well good morning, sweetheart." Haymitch says with a smirk in his voice.
I give him a scowl and walk into the kitchen. I grab a glass from the cabinet and turn on the sink and pour water in.
I hear Peeta stand up and walk over to me. He comes up and snakes his arms around my waist and gives me a hug. "Good morning." he whispers into my ear, pecking the side of my head with his lips.
"Hey." I say, still half asleep. I turn my head so that he can kiss me softly on the lips.
He lets go and I walk out of the kitchen and sit in a chair by Haymitch as Peeta sits back down at the chess table. Haymitch just looks at me and smiles.
"What?" I ask him.
"You just, seem happy," he teases.
"Alright," I say as I stand up. "I'm going to go take a shower," I tell Peeta.
"Okay." he says with a smile and I smile back. I walk back up the stairs.
I hop in the shower and wash off the dream from last night. That was the worst of them all. Seeing all that I love then President Snow with supposedly their blood dripping from his mouth. I'll never get that image out of my head.
When I step out of the shower I dry my hair with a towel and put it in its usual braid down my back. I go to my closet and pull out the leather brown jacket I got from Cinna. It doesn't hurt to see the clothes, but it does bring small tears every now and then. I pull on my hunting boots and the black thin gloves I also got from Cinna.
I walk downstairs and put on my coat.
"Where are you going?" Peeta asks.
I turn and look at Haymitch and Peeta. "I'm going to run errands." I don't see the point of lying here. They both know where I'm going. I am running errands but that's not all.
Peeta gives me a smile raising one eyebrow. "Okay. See ya." je says.
"Bye." I say and open the door and walk out into the cold.

When I reach the fence that borders District 12, I crawl under the wire. Even though the fence is not electrified any more, we still need it to keep out unwanted visitors, such as animals. I walk to the usual spot where I hide my bow and sheath of arrows. I take them and make for the house where I met Bonnie and Twill. As I walk through the woods, I notice that the woods is coming back to life with green. The birds are slowly coming back, chirping, and the trees are growing again. Its like nothing ever happened. Like the woods was rising from the dead.
When I reached the small cabin, I walk inside and light a fire. I kneel down and start to rub my hands together, making them warmer. I come here every Sunday. Its a great place to escape to from the whole world. Its quiet and peaceful. I can think here.
I put out the fire after I feel all warmed up and take my bow and sheath. I walk outside and make my way to a part of the woods I've never been to been to before. I've been looking forward to this for weeks. I walk up a steep hill that was slippery with wet leaves. Once I reach the top my mouth drops open.
Dead bodies everywhere. Bones, corpses, detached limbs. They were all unfamiliar faces, most faces where gone. What happened here? I don't dare move closer, scared that whatever is out there, might be watching. I quickly turn around and slip on the leaves, falling on my butt, sliding down the hill. Once I reach the bottom I stand up and sprint for the fence. I keep running and running, not even stopping to take a breath or even look back. Once I reach the fence I realize I still have my bow and sheath. I quickly find a tree with a hole in it so I could hide it. I crawl back under the fence and run for home.
Once I reach home, I fling the door open to see Peeta on the couch sketching something. He lifts his head and sees me. "Katniss?" He says confused as to why I was just standing there. Then I start breaking out into tears. "Katniss?!" He screams now scared. He drops his pad and pencil and runs to me as I fall to the ground on my knees. He kneels down next to me as I bury my face in my hands crying. "Katniss, whats wrong?" Peeta says as his arms wrap around me and I fall into his lap as he rocks me back in forth. I dig my head into his chest. hiding it from the rest of the world.
I tell him about all the dead bodies and he tells me that he wants me to stay out of the woods for a while. I will want to eventually go back but I agree with Peeta, he just wants me to be safe. So I swore to him I won't go back for a long time.
