CHAPTER 13
"I'm afraid not miss Everdeen." Paylor calls down the hallway as she walks towards me smiling.
"It's Mrs. Mellark now." I say.
"Yes, congratulations, Katniss." She says while giving me a hug.
"Thank you, Paylor."
"So, how have you been?" She asks.
"I've been better." I say.
"I'm sorry to hear that."
"Paylor we need to talk."
"I know, Katniss. But not now, later. Today's your big day. We shouldn't dwell on the negtivities." She says.
"Your right." I agree.
"Now you need to go before the groom sees you. Bad luck."
"Luck isn't something that has been a part of my life." I say.
"Well, best not make it worst. You'll do great." She smiles.
I slip back into my room and Effie blows up. "Where have you been? Please tell me you didn't see Peeta!" yells Effie.
"I was talking to Paylor." I say while fixing my hair in the mirror.
"Oh," the room goes quiet.
I pace the floor, anxious for this wedding to hurry up and be over. Once the doors open, I start walking in the garden slowly and gracefully. The garden was beautiful and glorious. Various white flowers and bouquets covering the entire reception. I sneak a peek at the audience and not recognize anyone. I look up and see Peeta. Once he sees my face he breaks into a heartwarming smile. He stands up straight in his white Capitol tux he wore to the Quarter Quell interview, except this time he was happy. The walk to the altar from the door is a a long way, so I lift my dress slightly and sprint towards the altar. Peeta starts to walk towards me and I run into his arms. He lifts me up and twirls me in a circle. He presses his lips slightly to my cheek and sets me down. He takes my hand in his and leads me to the altar.
I sneak a peak to my left and see Johanna trying to pass as sweet and kind but I can tell deep inside she's oozing with boredom. Sitting next to her a smiling Beetee. Once he sees me he slightly tilts his head as in a 'go ahead' gesture.
"Do you Peeta, take Katniss Everdeen to have and to hold. For rich or for poor. In sickness and in health. Till death do you part."
"I do." Peeta smiles and slides the provided gold band with the emerald on my finger by the Capitol. He must have picked it especially for me.
"Do you Katniss, take Peeta Mellark to have and to hold. For rich or for poor. In sickness and in health. Till death do you part."
"I do." I slide the gold band on his finger.
"I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."
Peeta cups my face in his hands and gently presses his lips to mine.
The crowd erupts with aws and clapter. I wrap my arms around Peeta's neck and hug him. He takes my hand in his and we run down the aisle back inside the palace, away from all the pointless guests and decor. Once the doors are shut and we are alone, I throw my arms around Peeta once more and hug him tightly.
"I love you, Katniss." Peeta whispers into my neck.
"I love you too, Peeta." I whisper.
"See that wasn't so bad, now was it?" Peeta laughs lifting his head from my shoulder.
"That's not even half of it Peeta." I whine. "We still have the dinner and the meet and greet a-"
"And the honeymoon." He smiles.
I let out a small laugh and smile. "Yeah."
Then his face goes serious. "Katniss, what are we going to do?" He asks.
"What do you mean?" I asked confused.
"About..." He looks around to make sure no one hears us. "Snow." He whispers. "What are we going to do after all this dies down?"
"Just lay low." I say.
"No, you create a distraction." Haymitch approaches us. "Nicely done you two." He smiles at Peeta and shakes his hand. "Congradulations, again."
"Thank you." Peeta smiles.
"Oh, and my darling... you, were stunning." Haymitch mimicked Effie's voice.
"You weren't to bad yourself, mister best man." I tease.
"You two were astounding! Glorious! What a triumph! You two have certainly changed hearts." Effie makes her grand entrance with her high preppy voice.
"What?" I ask.
"Some of the districts are starting to remember again, but it's not enough for all of them to remember." Haymitch says.
Peeta's and my love brought some back. As of now, few people of Panem are remembering and spreading the word of how glorious the star-crossed lovers are.
