CHAPTER 3

"No! Please! Please, don't hurt him! Please! Take me! Not him! Just, please!" I scream at the head peace keeper Thread, as he raises the whip and makes a big slash on his back, revealing blood that oozes out in an instant.

"Please! Stop! You've done enough!" I scream again.

"Get out of here stupid girl!" Someone shouts from the crowds.

"Move along!"

"This is no place for you!"

"Go home!"

Thread raises the whip again and I jump in front of it as he brings it down making a slash on my face. My hand quickly goes to it and I drop to my knees, it didn't hurt. I can't feel anything. Gasps go throughout the crowd as I reveal the slash on my face.

I turn my head to look at Gale, but as he turns his head I notice that's its Peeta.

"Peeta!?" I say with a scared tone.

I stand up and run for Thread. My fists are about to pound into his head, but then I open my eyes.

Peetas arms are around me, holding me in close. His eyes are open as he looks down at me. He hums a little tune into my ear to calm me, and surprisingly it does. "It's okay Katniss, it's just a dream. Nothing's real."

My hands stretch to his back and I slip my hands under his shirt, sending a shiver down his spine. "Katniss, not now,"

"Shh," I say, as I feel for any cuts and scars to make sure it wasn't real.

"Katniss, we can't," he says.

My hands withdrawal after my inspection and they go back to resting by his chest. "I was just, checking something." He slightly nods, knowing it was probably from my dream.

His arms tighten around me, holding me in close as my head rests on one of his arms. I liked his arms better than a pillow. It may be hard because he's unbelievably strong, but it's warm and comforting. And without having to open my eyes, I know he's here.

Then it hits me. The passionate kiss we shared meant that we are ready for something serious, like marriage. Our time has finally come. He may not think he's ready but I know he is.

"Peeta?" I ask.

"Yeah?" he says into my hair.

"Remember when you told me, that when your first saw me, you said you completely fell in love with me?"

"Yeah," he says with a smile in his
voice.

"You and I both know that I didn't fall in love with you when we first met..."

"Yes?" he says with his smile disapering.

"But, you do know that I love you now, right?"

"Yeah," he says with his smile reappearing.

"Do you know how much I love
you?"

"No," be says. He does know, but I can tell he wants to make sure.

I sit up, getting closer to him as he sits up too. My face directly in front of his. Nose to nose. I take his hand in mine, then look up into his eyes.

"Peeta, I love you so much, that I didn't even know it at first. Thats the thing about love, some see it instantly, and some just need time to realize it. Peeta, I can't stand the thought of being away from you again. And I ju-" Peeta puts his finger to mine to stop me from talking anymore.

"Katniss, you don't need to say anymore." he says with a smile. "I have a feeling that your suggesting a proposal,"

I look down blushing. "Yeah,"

He lifts my chin with his finger. "Well, stop. Thats my job." he says smileing.
"Katniss, will you marry me?" he asks. I can tell that he's shaking and his palms are all sweaty, even though he already knows the answer.

"Ye-" he cuts me off with a kiss. It's about time that I start getting used to these sort if kisses, they happen a lot now, but I can't get used to them. Each kiss holds a new surprise. Like this one filled with passion and fiery. His arms wrap around me, pressing his hands into my back, deepening the kiss. My hands go to the back of his head, my fingers in his hair. It's moments like these that you never want to let go. That you want to hold on to.

He lays me down on the bed so that we are face to face, in each other's arms. Once our lips come apart we just lay there, all still.

"You didn't let me finish what I was gonna say," I say with a smile as he laughs.

"I told you, you didn't have to talk anymore." he says smiling.

That's when we both know that he's back.
