CHAPTER 28

"Katniss we need to talk." Gales voice pleads over the phone.

"Gale, I can't leave Peetas side. You know Snow will do something. As long as you are there at the house with everyone we will be fine."

"I can't do that for six weeks Katniss. I won't be here for six weeks. I have a life back in one, I have girlfriend, I have a job."

I block out all hearing at the word girlfriend. He had a girlfriend and he never bothered to tell me? "I'm sorry, but there's not much I can do right now. I have to go."

"Katniss, wait-" I hang up before he can say anything else.

"Excuse me, Mrs. Mellark?" A girl walks into the hallway from Peetas room.

"That's me." I say.

"Hi, I'm Peetas doctor, Doctor Isaac. I'm terribly sorry, but we are going to be running some tests on Peeta twice every week and it's necessary that you aren't present." she says.

"Wait, what? No I need to be with him at all times." I say.

"Is there a specific reason why?" she asks.

I couldn't tell her. "No. Can I just see him real quick before I go."

"Of course you can." she smiles.

I enter his room and he's lying on his bed with hospital assistants attaching cords to his arms.

"Hey." he smiles.

"Hey. Listen, they need me to leave for a while." I say.

"What?" he asks.

"It's just for a little bit, I'll be right back." I say.

"No, you can't go." he says. "Katniss please don't leave."

"Peeta, I don't want to. They are making me. But I promise I'll see you soon. Okay?" I say.

"Do you remember the last time you left me? You said you would see me soon. You didn't. Katniss, please. Don't go." he pleads with tears in his eyes.

"Mr. Mellark," Doctor Isaac walks in. "I'm sorry but if you want to get better then she needs to leave, but it will only be for four hours."

"Why can't she be with me?" Peeta asks.

"Because we are going to run some tests, have you watch some clips. It will only function if your wife isn't present." The doctor tells him.

"No! It won't work!" Peeta yells. The assistants quickly tie him down with restraints to his bed. He pulls hard and harder. "No! Katniss! Please! Don't leave me!" he pleads.

I start to cry and run out of his room into the hallway, followed shortly by Doctor Isaac. I wipe my eyes dry.

"Doctor Isaac?" I ask.

"Yes?" she says.

"Make sure you never leave him out of your sight. Promise?" I ask.

"Sure." she smiles.

I leave the hospital and make my way to my house. I walk in and Gale walks into the front hall.

"Katniss, your here." he smiles.

"Well I've been kicked out of the hospital, Peetas gone mad again. They had to restrain him." I say. "What did you want to talk about?"

"Them." Gale gestures behind him. It was Aneel and Darcy.

"What? What are they doing here? How did you find them?" I ask.

"They found me." he says.

"It's great to see you again." Darcy smiles.

"Pleasures all mine." I say.

"We have come here with a warning." Aneel says.

"Your uncle beat you to it. He's already been here and threatened all of us." I say.

"Katniss, you seem to forget we are on your side. We are here to warn you about Peeta. Where is he? Somewhere safe and with some trustworthy I pressume." Aneel says.

"He's with a doctor in the hospital." I say.

"And the name of the doctor?" Aneel asks.

"Isaac." I say.

"Katniss! Do you know what you've done?" Aneel shouts.

"No, what?" I ask.

"Doctor Issac is who Snows been working with. Shes there insider." Darcy says.
