CHAPTER 15

"Deep in the meadow, under the willow." I brush a strand of stringy blonde hair off of Prim's forehead. "A bed of grass, a soft green pillow."

Prim snuggles into me closer, squeezing her dreadful looking cat in between us. Her eyelids start to get heavy then they give in, closing her eyes.

"Lay down your head, and close your eyes. And when they open, the sun will rise." I sing. I can tell she dozed off so I kiss her forehead and get off the bed. I slowly tiptoe to the door, not to disturb her slummber.

"Katniss." Prim wakes.

I turn around to smile at her. "Yes?"

"Please don't leave me." she pleads.

"I'm not going anywhere." I promise. I get back into bed and she rests her head on my chest, falling back to sleep as I stroke he hair.

My eyes open and Prim is gone. Then I realize I'm on the train. But Peeta's gone. I can't see but I can feel his absence. "Peeta?" I call into the darkness. "Peeta?"

I get out of bed and turn the light switch on. No one. I put on a robe and walk out into the hallway. I walk down the hall into the dinning cart and find Haymitch watching tv with a bottle of liqour.

"Haymitch?" I startle him. He jumps almost spilling his bottle.

"Damn, Katniss. Don't do that." He snaps.

"Where's Peeta?" I ignore his remark.

"How should I know? I thought he was with you." Haymitch says uneasy.

"No. He was there when I went to bed but he's not there anymore." I explain.

"Obviously." He rolls his eyes.

"Where is he?" I demand now.

"I already told you sweetheart. I don't know." He says with a harsh tone. "I'm not a liar." He raises his eyebrows.

"Well that's a first." I say.

"Listen girl, I don't know where your previous lover boy is, alright. He could be anywhere on this damn train." He snaps.

"I'm going to find him." I continue on past Haymitch.

"Be my guest." Haymitch says.

I walk down the hall and see one door open. The control room. No one was in there so I walk in and look at the cart occupation list. The back sitting cart was occupied. It isn't Effie because she's sleeping in her cart, Haymitch is still in the dinning cart. I'm in the control room. It's not a Capitol attendant because they don't track those. Its probably Peeta. I put down the list and walk to the back cart.

The door opens and someone's sitting on the couch. The person turns and smiles.

"Peeta?" I walk over and sit next to him. "What are you doing I here?"

"I hope I didn't scare you. I was just thinking." He apologizes.

"What were you thinking about?" I ask.

"About Snow. About us. Our future." He smiles resting his hand on mine.

"What about our future?" I ask.

He looks out the window into the night sky. "Katniss, you know I agree with Haymitch. We really need something."

"What are you saying, Peeta?" I ask him.

He turns and smiles at me. He looks down at our hands. "You know, Katniss. I know we both promised that we wouldn't have children until we thought the world was safe," he looks up at me. "But, it would take nine months. Who knows, maybe the world will be different in nine months. But if we wait till then, who knows how the world will be in another nine months."

I look down at our hands and then back at him. "Peeta-"

"Katniss, this is bound to happen. Don't you want to be a mother? Don't you want to raise a child to be a champion. A victorious girl or boy who can shoot an arrow or kill a squirrel? A beautiful child with your hair and gorgeous eyes that I always get lost in."

"Yes, Peeta but-"

"Katniss." He pleads.

I look down again. I don't know whether to give in or not. He makes perfect sense, but there's another part of me that's pulling me back. It felt as though I was in the middle of a tug-a-war match. But then I realize that Peetas right. Who knows how the world will be in nine months. I've been taking risks all my life, why not now?

"Okay." I give in.

"Okay?" Peeta smiles.

"Okay." I repeat but this time smiling.

"Okay." Peeta agrees and presses his lips to mine. I throw my arms around him and hug him.

I take Peetas hand in mine and lead him back to bed. We lay down and he kisses my forehead softly.
