CHAPTER 27

"Longest six weeks ever." he jokes.

"It's only the second day." I laugh.

"Exactly." he smiles.

"You just have to forget about time. You'll be out of here as soon as you know it." I say.

"And how long will that take?" he asks.

"Six weeks." I smile.

"Too long." he smiles. "You'll stay with me, right?"

"Always." I say.

"Then six weeks mean nothing to me." he says. "Hows life back home?"

"Rory is still sick, Johanna is still there, but I doubt she's ever leaving. My moms invited Hazelle to stay with us since she's over so many times."

"So my guess is our home is turning into a hotel?" Peeta asks.

"Precisely." I say.

"And Gale?" he asks.

"He's fine. We haven't spoken in a while. He's busy looking after Vick and Posy." I say.

"Okay." Peeta says.

I stand up from my chair and lay in Peetas hospital bed beside him. He pulls me into him and wraps his arms around me as I rest my head on his chest, focusing on the steady best of his heart. "Peeta? You promise you'll always be honest with me, right?" I ask.

"Of course. Why do you ask?"

"Nothing." I shake it away. Peeta can't know about Snow or he will kill both of us.

"No, what?" he eagerly asks.

"It's just, I need to know I can trust you. No matter the situation." I say.

Peeta takes my hand in his. "Katniss, I don't know what more you want me to say. I love you with every part of my being. I have loved you, since the second you sang and the birds silenced. And by loving you, that means honesty and trust. You do trust me, right?"

"Of course I do." I smile.

"Good. Because I trust you." he kisses my lips softly.

I don't know how guilty a person could feel. I felt like such a hypocrite to Peeta. Here I am, asking him to be honest about Snows visits when I'm lying straight to his face about our encounter. For all I know, he might have been hijacked to forget Snows visits. The only thing left to do was to be at Peeta's side every moment. He never left me so now it's my turn to return the favor. But it will be difficult with Snow watching and fire at the ready at any moment. He did this just so he could distract me when he attacks us all.

He's given me a choice, between Panem and Peeta. Which one to fight for, because I can't fight for both.
