CHAPTER 16

My eyes flutter upon to fine Peeta watching me. Shirtless. Peeta shirtless, not a first but it was different with the sun shining in through the train window with his chest full exposed. "Good morning." He whispers softly.

"Good morning." I say as I snuggle in closer to him. Peeta wraps his arms around me and pulls me into his chest as I rest my head against him.

We both lay like this for a while until Haymitch knocks on the door. "Breakfest! Now!" he shouts.

I get up and take a shower. I get dressed as Peeta showers and we go to breakfest. Haymitch and Effie have already started. "Why good morning my two lovelys." Haymitch mocks Effie. She shoots him a scold and smiles at us.

"Did you sleep well?" she asks.

"Yes." I say sitting next to Peeta at the table.

"Well, since your both wide awake, we need to discus our Snow problem." Haymitch says.

"Already solved," Peeta says.

"Oh? Really? And hows that?" asks Haymitch.

"Well, Katniss and I both talked," he looks at me and grabs my hand. "We are thinking about starting a family."

"Yes well, I think the lack of sound proof walls confirmed that," Haymitch teases.

I can feel my cheeks turn red. "I'm kidding." Haymitch says.

"Well, I think that's wonderful for you two," Effie smiles.

"Yes and it's a great idea for Katniss." Haymitch says.

"What do you mean?" I ask confused.

"More of a reason for you to stop wondering around in the woods,"

"I completely agree." Peeta says.

"Oh, so I'll be a stay at home wife now?" I say with a little more attitude than necessary.

"No, that's not what we meant," Peeta says.

"It's exactly what we meant," Haymitch says. I shoot him a hurtful look. "Don't look at me like that. The last thing we need is you getting hurt in the woods or slipping on the ice outside because honey, Snow is coming. And with Snow watching, you need to stay indoors at all times until we can assure you are safe. Am I clear?"

"Crystal." I snap. I stand up and head for the door.

"Katniss," Peeta calls.

I just ignore him. I don't need him. I don't need his saftey. I can protect myself and I am sure as hell not a stay at home wife.

Once we are back home, we aren't greeted by cameras because we are supposedly on our honeymoon. The only thing they respect on our silly honeymoon is privacy. The one thing that's private.

When we are back at our house in the Victors Village, without saying a word I walk upstairs to our bedroom exhausted and climb into bed with my clothes still on. I didn't care as long as I got sometime to sleep alone.

When I woke up sometime around midnight, Peeta isn't there which is what I was expecting, but I'm in my pajamas. Did Peeta do this? Just because we are husband and wife now, does he think he can just undress me without asking or giving a care in the world? Well that's over the line.

I get up from my bed and walk out into the hall to Peetas old room. I knock until he opens. "Yes, Katniss?" He asks with his hair all ruffled and his eyes red.

"Why did you change my clothes? That is not okay. You need to respect my privacy Peeta." I say.

His face goes puzzeled. "What? Katniss I didn't do anything."

"Oh, then who did?" I ask.

"Katniss?" I turn and see my mother.

"Mom?" I run into her welcoming arms and hug her tightly. "What are you doing here?"

"I need to be back home. I hope you don't mind." She says.

"No, please. Stay as long as you like. I could never be happier." I say into the curtain of her long blonde hair as tears fall from my eyes onto her neck.

"Katniss, please don't cry." She says.

"I can't help it mom. I'm so happy your here." I lift my weeping head from her shoulder. "Wait, why are you here mom?"

"I told you I needed to be home." She smiles.

"Mom." I sniff because my nose was starting to run.

"Okay, Peeta called me out here because he told me you were going to be a mother. So I wanted to be by your side the entire step if the way."

"Aw, mom. Well I'm not pregnant yet, but it's what the plan is." I say. "Thank you."

"Don't thank me, thank Peeta." She nods towards his door.

I turn but his door his shut. "Excuse me mom." I say.

"That's alright I'll be downstairs drinking some coffee." She walks down the stairs.

I walk into Peetas room and he's already back in bed but he's sound asleep. I walk over and sit on the side of the bed. "Peeta?" I whisper.

His eyes open and he looks up at me. "Hey." He smiles.

"Thank you for calling my mom." I say as I take his hand in mine.

"Of course. I could tell you were upset by staying home so I thought you might need some company."

I smile for a long silence. "I'm sorry Peeta, I didn't mean to yell at you. I didn't know my mom changed me, I thought you did."

"It's fine Katniss. I understand. Just know that I do respect your privacy. I would never do anything that might make you feel uncomfortable."

"I know that." I smile. I lean down and kiss his cheek. "Goodnight."

"Goodnight." He says.

I let go of his hand and go downstairs. My mom was sitting at the kitchen table drinking a mug of coffee. She smiles when I enter the kitchen.

"Mom?" I sit next to her.

"Yes?" She says.

"Are you okay? Here?" I ask.

"Yes, I'm alright. Its not ideal but I can get through it. I miss my Katniss." She says. I take my hand in hers and smile. "Yes, I do also miss Prim, but I don't want to loose both my daughters just because ones in a better, safer place."

Later on that night I sleep with my moms arms wrapped around me. It felt nice to have my mom back. I needed someone here who I could talk about anything with and come for comfort. I just hope she's here to stay.
