Precautious- Used to describe someone who takes measures in advance to avert possible evil or to secure good results.
"And our next word on the list is?" Ms. Bleu asked.
"Ephemeral, which means momentary or lasting for a short period of time." The class read from our notebooks.
"Okay . . . Landon!" Ms. Bleu looked up from her register. "What is the meaning of incongruous?" She asked.
He looked around the class for a while and then replied , "I . . . have absolutely no idea!" In that exact moment my hand flew up as I had the answer scanned in my brain and was ready to regurgitate it.
"Acacia." She tilted her head in my direction, to show her approval.
"Incongruous means to be out of place or not in harmony with your surroundings or other aspects of something!" I said enthusiastically.
"Good job!" She smiled at me. I turned my gaze to the door only to see Landon giving me a mean mug then rolling his eyes.
Class was dismissed shortly after and Nyla and I headed out together.
"You can tell someone didn't do their homework!" Nyla joked.
"You'd think that he was capable of more than looking pretty and styling his dark hair!" I sassed. " Well it's quite evident now!" She laughed as we headed to lunch.
"Have you started your S.A.T prep yet?" I asked her, taking a seat on one of the benches.
"Yeah . . ." She said knowing what my follow up question would be.
"How far did you get?" I asked.
"Well . . . . I was about to start math, but Kyle messaged me . . . .and well, math didn't happen!" She said giving me a small smile.
"You know Kyle is a major distraction!" I said taking a bite of my cheeseburger.
"Yeah . . . but the best distraction there is." She bragged.
"Ny . . . a distraction is a distraction and they are never good." I nagged.
"Okay. . . I'll be more serious . . . but he's just so --" I cut her off.
"Adorable!" I nagged her.
"Hardy -- Har-- Harr!" She huffed. I smiled as I dipped my tater tot into the ketchup and stuffing it into my mouth.
The clock struck two and Mr. Black dismissed us. This was one of the few classes that I had with Nyla. We walked out together and headed to the library so that we could return some books in exchange for others. As I pulled open the door and tilted my head to tell Nyla to come on, she shook her head and said "Mom brought a few home from her trip to Paris." I smiled giving her a sign of assurance, before I walking in. I browsed the area for a few seconds, then went towards the 'Fiction' section. I ran my fingers over all of the books and stopped at one that wasn't aligned with the others. I eyed the stem of the book and read the title. The sound of someone's shoes clicking against the floor pierced my ears and disturbed by silent reading. I rushed out of the isle to see dark hair and a plaid shirt exit the room.
I walked back to the book and grabbed it. I signed it out, while returning 'To Kill A Mockingbird' by Harper Lee.
"A tale of two cities huh?" Mrs. Jenkins smiled.
"Yeah . . . it just caught my attention. " I replied as she signed the book out.
"Well enjoy, it's a great book!" She smiled.
"I will !" I smirked.
I walked out of the library opening the book.
"A Tale Of Two Cities, cool!" Nyla exclaimed.
"Yeah, it was an unexpected pick actually." I said reading the back cover of the book.
"Well aren't you reckless." She joked.
"Ha.Ha.Ha!" I said sarcastically. I emerged myself into the book while we walked towards the exit. A sudden bash into shoulder interrupted me.
"Watch where you're going!" He said angrily.
"Sorry!" I whispered. We walked out of the entrance doors and stood outside for a minute.
"Oh there's my ride, got to go!" Nyla exclaimed.
"Bye!" She said.
"Bye, don't get distracted again, we have to stay focused!" I yelled.
"Yeah, Yeah!" She yelled back. As I stood there waiting for my ride the school's vagabonds emerged from the building. As they passed by me, the smell of Cannabis leaking from their pores filled the air. One of them wearing a plaid shirt stared at me weirdly but I paid him no attention, instead I disregarded the passing scent and read my book.
For me after dinner was usually blue pajamas, and a good book. After brushing every bit of Chicken Parmesan from my teeth, I grabbed the book off of my study and nestled in bed. Before I could indulge, ,my mom peeked in from the door.
"I thought you were asleep."She said.
"No, I figured since it was only eight-thirty I'd stay up for a bit to do some reading, "
"Okay, don't stay up too late!" She said kissing me good night and leaving.
And so I began , " It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair --"
A bit short and iffy, but Chapter two for anyone who decides to read will be better!
