I heard a car door slam behind me and I turned to look down from the hill.
"Acacia! Where the fuck have you been?" She came up to the base of the rocky elevation.
"Do not yell at me!" I snapped not looking back at her as she climbed up.
Her face became filled with remorse as she sat beside me.
"Have you been here all night?"
"Yeah! After I practically walked the whole city." I replied.
"You look like a zombie!" Nyla said, trying to lighten the mood.
"That's how you look when you're a living dead."
"Everyone's going crazy wondering where you are." She looked at me.
"Hmm, maybe I am too." I said not moving my gaze away from the water.
"Cacia, I'm sorry." She breathed out.
"For?" I looked at her.
She took a moment to pause and stare at me.
"For what he did."
I stuck my tongue in my cheek and all of a sudden I broke down. . . again.
"He shoved me in a room," "And tied me up." I said in between sobs.
"An--" I began but couldn't finish.
"You don't have to finish." She pulled me close.
"I should have been there for you." She comforted me.
"I should have called you or followed you, or something." She rambled.
"Nyla." I sniffed lifting my head from her shoulder.
"Landon! Should've been there for me." "How could you have possible known where I was." I hurts worst saying it.
"You're right, he should've been there for you." She sighed.
"And Tom shouldn't have done what he did, but he did." I shrugged.
"What are you going to do about it?" She asked.
I had thought about this all night. What am I going to do? Telling the police seemed practical, but best case scenario, he gets arrested and this wont happen to anyone else. Worse case scenario, we go through long months of trial and he gets away with it. My humiliation would be public and I wouldn't be able to leave it behind me. . . Not that I ever could anyway. In a way, I got what was coming; I was somewhere I shouldn't be--alone--at night, and some might say I was stupid for not knowing how this common story ends. Either way, I should be moving for college soon, so why carry all of this with me.
"Leave it in the past." I responded.
"But what about other possible victims?"
"Someone'll speak up . . . just not me." I shrugged.
She calmly rubbed my back as my mind began to wonder off. We sat there for a bit until I spoke sporadically.
"Let's do it." I stood up.
"Do what?" Nyla stood slowly.
"Put everything behind us, Ny!" "This. Landon. High school, and even the me that use to be." I breathed out.
