I sat in my room, writing my feelings again. I found refuge in my writing, perhaps it's why I love to read so much. For the chance to see someone else's story and connect with a person's relishing coping methods is one great experience one can get each time they open a book. I came to forget how much I loved reading, I forgot a lot of things I used to do, yet ironically couldn't forget the past few months.
'Knock . . .Knock.'
"Hi." Alexa peered around the door.
"You okay?" She asked.
"Well . . . . I was raped, my boyfriend is a total jerk, ex-boyfriend now and I'm currently re-evaluating my life. So how'd you think?"
"I'm sorry?" She asked more than expressed.
"On the bright side, Tom being in jail shows men out there that eating pussy is a crime." I laughed heartily making her laugh too.
"How do you do that?" Her voice became soft.
"Do what?"
"Laugh . . . despite all that's going on?"
"Because deep down, I know God answers prayers, especially in times like these."
"Especially for his little angel. I love you." She kissed my temple.
She walked along to the door and stopped to see Carmen standing there. We had an awkward moment looking back and forth at each other.
"Uh, Nyla left this for you." She said.
"Oh, Alexa that's one I forgot, my best friend is a witch." I pointed out.
"No, she's a real best friend even when you don't agree with her." She replied leaving the box on my study.
"Maybe." I whispered to myself.
I reached for the red box, and opened it on my bed. A beautiful fabricated version of the sea sat folded in the box with a note laid on top.
"I'm sorry for what I did, but it was the right thing to do. You may hate me for it, but he had to be punished. I hope you can see things the way I do. Here's the dress I promised you."
"P.s. It's not prom without you." The note read.
I lifted the dress out of the box just for it's identical authenticity to compel me.
"Aaah!" I grunted into my pillow.
"You can still go." Alexa's voice said from behind the closed door.
"I didn't say I wanted too." I answered muffling the words with my pillow.
"You're as predictable as a character in a book, you want to." She replied.
"Okay." I raised my head.
She opened the door coming in with Carmen and her make-up kit and curling iron.
"Traitors!" "Why'd you bring all this stuff to the door." I smiled.
"Because we know you'd be all like should I stay, should I go!" Alexa mimicked.
"Where for art thou Romeo." Carmen cut in. "It rhymed so . . . " She nodded and shrugged repeatedly.
"Yeah . . . . " We laughed.
