We stood outside of the rooms anticipating the triviality of an aptitude test. Some paced back and forth eating at their fingernails hoping that their scores may boost, others crammed severely hoping to meet the last of their college requirements, as I stood there staring at the door.

"Do you know how to solve this," A random female frenzied.

"Yeah, collect like terms, carry them over and switch the signs and solve then divide."

"So, X will equal to one point three or one and one fifth." I showed her.

"Shit I don't even understand that." She panicked.

It was relieving that I knew my stuff while others didn't. I felt guilty that perhaps Nyla was panicking too, because I was her distraction and Landon was mine.

"Come in." Our overseer had said after we signed the register, and showed I.D.

"Take your seats." The stout man said.

He looked through the sign- in sheet for a few minutes.

"Dunmore?"       "Landon Dunmore." He called out, awaiting a response.

"Well okay, then." He made a motion to lock the door, when it opened slowly. It lightly hit the brunette man who stood behind it.

"Dunmore." He peered behind the door.

"You're late." His face tensed up.

"I know." Landon sighed.

"Sign this, and take your seat." Mr. Jones said handing him the paper.

He took his seat at my far right, exactly four seats over and two seats behind me.

"Okay, if we have no other late comers," He handed out the papers.

"All exam regulations apply."   "You have three hours and maybe fifty minutes . . . . you may begin." He gave out the last paper.

"Good luck!" He sat behind his desk.

My nerves began to kick in, and my hands began to shake. I took a deep breath and opened my test booklet. Words engulfed the page, and I digested them.

We took a ten minute break after the reading section. Everyone stood outside of their room doors in the hallway. I leaned on the wall beside the door, watching everyone converse with each other. From time to time I'd take a bite of my BLT.

"How was it?" The cheerful voice patted my shoulder.

"Iffy." I shrugged.

"It wasn't that bad." She leaned against the wall with me.      "You ready for math?"

"More than I ever could be." I looked to her.

"Yeah, me too." She agreed.

"Is that . . . " She started.

"Yeah." I exhaled, knowing what she was referring to.

She made a motion to move towards the seated boy.

"No."  I pulled her back.

"I'm going!" She pulled her hand away from me.

"Dickens!" She smiled.
