Breaking Up

By the next morning I had made my decision. Despite how much sense Hermione's advice made, I couldn't even think about leaving Harry. Not to mention the fact that leaving Harry would probably also mean leaving Ron and Hermione.

After breakfast  Hermione was helping me get to our Arthimacy class and that's when I told her that I would have to break up with Draco.

"Really? Oh, Katie! I mean, not to be rude, because you know that I would respect any decision you made, but I was kind of hoping that you would choose Harry. But, are you sure about this? Don't let anyone, not even me, effect your decision." she said when I told her. Honestly, it got me a bit annoyed when she said she was rooting for Harry. But, Hermione made up for it when she was willing to put her own feelings aside for my own benefit.

"Yeah, I'm sure. And, uh, thanks." I said. She nodded.

A week later I was walking up towards the castle from Care of Magical Creatures with my three best friends. Problem was that I still hadn't broken up with Draco.

"Hey, Katie, want to work on the homework together?" Harry asked me. I nodded. He continued, "We can give these two lovebirds a bit of alone time." I laughed as Ron and Hermione blushed.

"Katie!" a voice rang out from behind. I turned to see Draco. Harry and Ron automatically moved to stand beside me.

"Um, guys, just give me a second." Ron reluctantly moved back to be next to Hermione. Harry didn't move.

"What do you want, Malfoy?" he said forcefully.

"Harry, come on. Just give them a minute..." Hermione said, taking his arm and dragging him away.

"Hi, Draco." I said.

"Hey. Listen, you want to meet later tonight?" he asked. This was it. This was when I had to tell him that we had to break up.

"Draco, I can't. We can't ever- Yeah, sure. I would love to." I said. He looked at me suspiciously.

"What was that? We can't ever....?" he asked me.

"No, no. It's nothing."

"Are you sure?" I melted as I saw the sincerity in his eyes, he really cared about me. I gave him a nod. "OK, then. Well, see you at eight. Meet me in the library then."

He came closer and kissed me. I blushed. I hated myself for liking it so much. I waved him goodbye and went up the hill. I went into the Great Hall and sat with my best friends for diner.

"What did Malfoy want?" Ron and Harry asked me at the same time.

"Nothing.... Um, Harry? I'm, uh, not going to be able to do homework with you tonight." I said nervously.

"What? Why?" he asked, equally as nervous as me.

"She hasn't broken up with Draco yet, that's why."Hermione said suddenly. She had been so quiet I had hardly noticed she was sitting across Ron.

"You haven't? Blimey, Katie, you have had a week!" Ron said. Hermione gave him a stern look.

"Oh, yeah? Like you didn't just interfere!" Ron exclaimed. She smacked him in a playfully painful way on the arm.

"Hey!" he said. They started to bicker, as they always do.

"Guys, stop it!" Harry and I said in unison.  The fighting stopped abruptly.

"Listen, Harry, have been planning on breaking up with Draco for a while. The problem is that every time I try, I just can't bring myself to do it. But, I know I have to. He invited me to hang out with him later tonight, and I am going to go. To tell him there." Harry sighed. Then, surprisingly, he kissed my forehead.

"OK." We all finished our food slowly and then went up to the Gryffindor common room. I put away my bag and left Ron, Hermione, and Harry.

It was about eight with ten when I got to the library. Draco was sitting at a table alone, looking around the room. I walked over to him.

"Hey." I said. He smiled at me. I sat down beside him.

"So, uh, how was the day of my beautiful girlfriend?" I blushed.

"You know, you really have to stop blushing whenever I call you beautiful. Seeing as you  do so every time, and I call you beautiful frequently, your going to end up permanently red." I blushed again. Draco laughed.

"Um, Draco? We need to talk...." I said. He looked at me concerned. "Well, it's just that... We need to break up." I said very very quickly. A dangerous look flashed across his face.

"WHAT?!" he yelled. I could feel my stomach land a somersault. "IF WE WERE ONLY GOING TO GO DATE FOR A FEW WEEKS, WHY GET WITH ME IN THE FIRST PLACE?!" I cowered in my chair.

"Draco, I-"

"NO! SHUT IT!" He got up and paced the floor. A sudden thought popped into my head- where was everyone? Not even the librarian was here....

A few minutes passed and finally Draco stopped pacing and cursing. He looked over at me and smiled maliciously. Suddenly, he grabbed me by the shirt and slammed me against the wall. he forced his lips onto mine and fought, with his tongue, to gain way to my mouth. I pushed him away with my hands and tried to run, but he kicked my injured leg. I crumpled to the floor. Draco grabbed my shirt and pulled me up. Then, started to move his hand toward my rear end, again. I slapped it away. He pushed down hard on my shoulders until I fell to my knees, my face right in front of his boy part area.

"It wasn't a good idea, huh, to date me and then just dump me? You really shouldn't do that, you know. Especially to important people like me."

"Draco, please!"

"You know what's worse? I actually kinda liked you. I liked you so much I was willing to date a Gryffindor half blood! I thought we were good together too. Hmph. My dad was right." And before I knew what was happening, Draco was on the floor crying.

"Draco?" I asked, trying to hold back my own tears that had been threatening to fall for a while.

"Just, just go away."he said quietly.

"No." I sat down beside him and hugged him sideways. To my surprise, he didn't do or say anything.

"Why are you crying?" I asked, throwing caution to the wind.

"You just don't get it, do you? Katie, I'm in love with you!" I was taken aback. I tried not to show my bewilderment or the little part of me that was happy. I let go of him.

"Draco, I love you too. Just, not in a romantic way." He looked at me, his expression was impossible to read.

"Why are you still here?" he asked suddenly.

"What?"

"Why did you stay with me?"

"Draco, just because I don't like you in a romantic way doesn't mean I don't like you in a friend sort of way." He smiled weakly.

"Draco, I want to start to hang out with you in a non romantic way, just as friends. Maybe even best friends, if you'll let me." He nodded while grinning. Maybe it was the pain in my leg, that I had just acknowledged, or maybe it was because I still loved Draco, but I burst into tears. Draco tried to soothe me all throughout the night. That is until we both fell asleep in each other's arms.
