•CHAPTER SIX•

The next day at school, Dan found he was talking slightly more to the group he was in. He found out that whilst he had been away in hospital, both Tyler and Joey had come out gay but weren't going out because Tyler "Had a crush on someone else" and Joey already had a boyfriend called Daniel who he meets every Saturday.

Dan also found out Joe had been made captain of the school's football team, which explained why many girls had had a sudden interest in going to the matches the school were involved in.

But even so, people all around the school wanted to use Dan as a source to find out more about ghouls and what happened that night to him. And the most annoying thing of all, Alfie STILL kept going on to him about his diet.

It was Monday, two weeks after Dan had come to school. He hated Mondays with a passion.

He walked into his Media class. Although he loved this class, he would find it boring at times. He decided to watch as a few more people walked in; one of these people being Phil who sat at the front with Joe; where the pair of them always sat.

Dan sank lower into his usual seat at the back, and began to wonder about how he got in the mess he was living. He raised his hand up to his eye where the eye-patch sat. He had to make up a whole story for his mom about it, otherwise, like he had thought about before, if she found out he was actually a ghoul, she would call the police on him and kick him out at the same time.

The media class began and Dan's eyes (or eye in his case) wondered around the room. It was a lot different to how he had remembered it being before the accident happened. There were new cameras, new laptops and computers and new programs to use within the class. Obviously Mr. Mathews wanted everyone of his students to succeed.

"It's the time of the year we begin our new project within media," Mr Mathews announced with a smile.

This is what caused Dan to stop daydreaming and look up at Mr Mathews as he paced the front of the classroom holding a meter ruler over his shoulder (no one knew why he had it. There was no need for the ruler in a media room... it was just like a comfort thing for Me Mathews).

"And for this project, we are changing it up," he said as he moved over to his desk and picked up a clipboard.

No, Dan thought in his head, No don't let there be-

"I've put everyone in partners myself."

Everyone seemed annoyed so a chorus of groans echoed around the classroom. No one liked being put in pairs. They never ended well, and usually had each other at the others throat by the time they were handing in the project on the SD card or memory stick.

Mr Mathews sighed, "It's a good learning experience to do this. It allows you to communicate with others-"

Dan once again switched off from Mr Mathews speech. Dan was more than happy to work by himself in these sorts of projects. He usually did and would usually ace them easily with a high grade following him.

And if you had a high grade, that's all that mattered.

And besides, partner would just make Dan's work progress slower.

Names started to be called out by Mr Mathews as he checked them off the list.

"Daisy Porter and Robbert Chase."

"George Williams and Harry Wright."

"Alfie Deyes and Wendy Kross," Dan smiled in amusement as he watched Alfie sulked off to sit with Wendy.

"Joseph Sugg and Marcus Butler."

"It's Joe," Joe moans as he walks over to Marcus, a smile on his face as he had been partnered with someone he actually got on with.

"Amy Hodgkiss and Samuel Kent."

"Daniel Howell and Philip Lester."

The two of them made eye contact. Phil smiled and Dan sort of half-frowned half-smiled.

Phil walked over and plonked himself down in the seat next to Dan, "At least I'm not working with someone I don't know," Phil comments.

Dan nods slowly. Even though he was talking more and more (slowly) to people, it still wasn't a strong thing he enjoyed to do.

He's rather listen to his music through blasting headphones as he sat in a corner thinking about life.

Was that too hard to ask for?

Obviously in his case.

"The task I want is for you and your partner to describe through a short movie about how our world has changed since you were born. This can involve pictures, acting and clips from programs like the news and other sources. You have till the end of this term, so four weeks. I want you to work during lessons and in your free time..." Mr Mathews begins to hand around A3 paper, "This lesson I want you and your partner to brainstorm ideas together-" and yet again Dan drifted off into his own world.

"So what do you want to do Dan? Have any ideas?" Dan was brought back into reality by Phil Lester's voice.

"Why would I have ideas?" Dan asked in curiosity.

"I just thought because you have always done media class alone and you always got amazing grades-"

"Do you think I wanted to work on my own?" Dan snapped.

"Well I just thought-"

"Well you thought wrong!" He yelled, causing the rest of the class to look at him.

Fucking hell.

Phil sat there staring Dan, a look of horror on his face. Dan sunk into his seat and sighed deeply. This was all he needed.

As others began to talk excitedly about ideas, Phil just sat there, staring at the pencil he had in his hands.

"We could find photos or video recordings out of our past and have it so they are in black and white with that old, crackling effect going on in the background and then later on have it so it bursts into colour with us now -" Dan blurted out all of a sudden.

Where did that idea come from?

"And then he speaks," Phil teases as Dan hits him playfully in the arm.

"I mean, my idea is probably shit and -"

"No, I like it," Phil says with a smile plastered on his face, "And this is why you always get amazing grades and -"

"No need for the whole description again," Dan laughed.

Maybe it was just Phil's aroma that made Dan feel instantly happy.

Or maybe it was the fact Dan, for once, was actually enjoying himself.
