After spending half an hour putting Adrian to bed and climbing out of his bedroom window trying to make as little noise as he could, Dan once again found himself walking towards the bandstand located at the park. This was Dan's usual route after Connor calls out for a ghoul meeting, which Connor had done only an hour earlier whilst Dan was comforting his younger brother and trying to convince him that everything would be ok between there mom and Richard.
"Howell! Goad you could make it."
Connor, somehow, had made it up on top of the roof of the bandstand and was casually sitting there, legs dangling off the edge swinging gently with the breeze of the wind.
"Hey Connor!" Dan greeted back to his patrtner.
"What took you so long?" Termika's voice sounded as she appeared behind Dan and jumped on his back, scaring him but making him laugh.
"Yeah... err... my mom and her partner had a falling out."
"And?" Termika questioned bluntly.
Dan rolled his eyes, "My six year old brother was scared shitless about it, since he's never heard mum and Richard have a falling out before. He thought something bad was going to happen. I had to comfort him and put him to bed before I could leave."
"See Termika! Told you not everybody's life is easy to live through like yours." Connor smiled before jumping off the bandstand. He landed effortlessly and glanced at Dan, "Got your mask with you?"
Dan pulled his mask out of the backpack he had on his back, "Yep. Where would I be without it?"
Both Connor and Termika put theirs on and Dan copied them, tightening the straps around his head to make sure it didn't move. He looked at Connor who, out of the group, was the only one with a physical smile on his face that was visible, "The mask suits you, Howell. You made a good choice."
Dan smiled (even though Connor nor Termika couldn't see it), "Thanks."
"How do you feel about lesrning to fight?" Connor questioned as he leant against the bandstand with a cheeky smile on his face, "And learning how to summon your Kagune."
"M-my what?" Dan questioned, looking at Connor with a confused expression.
"You're Kagune," Connor said emphasising each syllable in the word, "All ghouls (and half ghouls like yourself) have them. We use them to fight other ghouls or to kill our victims. Basically a defending mechanism."
"Sounds cool," Dan smirked.
Having always considered himself as a weak person, knowing he now had a way of attacking people within his body, made him feel like he had a sense of power about him.
Connor gestured for Dan and Termika to follow him into the woods behind the bandstand. The trees were thick, and even though most of the leaves had fallen off the tree due to the winter season they were currently in, the glow of the moon still struggled to light up the way in which Connor was walking.
They entered a clearing, the only area in the woods that the moon was able to light up. Dan smiled at the beauty of the area before sitting down on a log Connor was pointing to.
They all took there masks off as they were now in a clearing away from civilisation, something Dan felt at comfort with.
Dan watched with wide eyes as he saw what could only be described as Connor transforming. Just below his shoulder blade, something appeared and it wrapped itself around Connor's arm at the end, a weapon which looked like it belonged at the end of a butchers knife: sharp, shiny and most of all, deadly.
