Tara's POV

I looked at Sam hoping he would know what was the right thing to say here or do. He knows I can't go to L.A. I can't travel anywhere. I've certain responsibilities which require my direct personal attention and I can't avoid them at any cost whatsoever.

"Mr.- Mr. Hardman actually Tara can't go. She doesn't really travel and we need her here. She's the head of some really important projects. But I can assure you that she'll do her best even from here. She can pay visits but moving all together seems impossible." Sam tried to convince him putting the words very carefully.

"Everyone can leave I want to talk to Ms. Verma alone"

Everyone left and Sam gave me an encouraging smile. He knew my reason and he tried his best to get me out of this.

"Why do you want this opportunity to slip from your hand?" He asked after everybody left.

"First I'm sorry for what happened in the morning and thank you for saving my job. I know how important it is to you and trust me my team and I'll do my best job even staying here" I replied

"I get it Ms. Verma, I've seen your profile and you're excellent. I would generally not go through all this trouble for anyone but your work is amazing. You've the talent and this opportunity which I'm offering you will take you higher places in your life. I don't understand why would you want to let it go" he said I know he was right but I had my own reasons.

"Thank you Mr. Hardman I appreciate your words that means alot to me but honestly I can't accept this offer no matter how big opportunity it is. I can't leave New York I've my own reasons"

I've decided no matter how tempting the offer looks I'll not agree. I can't risk my life here. I've obligations more important than my career.

"Can you have lunch with me? Maybe a last chance to convince you" he asked sincerely

I thought of saying no since I know I'm not easy to convince but he saved my job and didn't even fire me after me calling him a jerk so I shouldn't be a bitch to him.

"Although I'm not getting convinced anyway but for your mental peace. " I paused and he's eyes showed hope. "Yes I'll have lunch with you"

"I'll pick you at 12ish. I've some work around"

"Sounds good to me. I've work too "

"See you"

I smiled and headed towards Sam's cabin to explain her everything Because I know he must be stressed. Although he's a strict boss sometimes but he treats me as her daughter as he finds her dead daughter in me and I'm happy having a parent figure in my life since I'm disowned by my own parents. Sam knew everything and gladly he always listens to my problems which makes it eady to solve. But trust me when it's about some serious business he can be the death of you as well.

After picking me up for lunch Mr. Hardman drove us to one of the finest and expensive french restaurant.

"Mr. Hardman, can't we just go to some normal place?" I asked

"Just call me Xavier and moreover this has best French cuisine" he replied

"I know I've heard but I'm seriously underdress and it is going to be really expensive considering everything" I said looking around

"What kind of gentleman will I be if I allow a lady to pay. I'm paying Ms. Verma" he said

"Tara is okay. So if you're paying it becomes a date?" I asked sceptically.

"Do you want it to be?" He counter questioned

"Nope"

"Then it isn't"

I just smirked and followed the waitress who led us to our table.

"Hello ma'am hello sir. What would you like to order for drinks?" the blonde waitress asked

She had no interest in my order. She was busy drooling all over Xavier and Xavier was busy learning everything on that menu. It would've been more funnier if I wasn't hungry but I was starving. I've had nothing to eat since morning.

"Water will do for me" I said

"Same for me" Xavier said just after me without making a eye contact with her. She sighed and left.

"Atleast give a one look" I said as I watched her leave

"Huh?!"

"She was trying so hard to grab your attention you completely ignored her. That's not very nice of you"

The waitress came with water and again started her attempts seducing Xavier. She practically placed her boobs in front of Xavier's face and he was unaffected.

"I'll have Mediterranean terrine" Xavier said looking at me but before I could order, the waitress nodded, gave him a dirty look and started to leave.

"Hey!" I called her and she looked at me. "Did you just not see me sitting right in front of this man? Seriously? Is it so hard for you to see past that handsome face?";

"I'm sorry ma'am. What would you have?" She asked lowering her head

"I would have boulangère potatoes and yes please pack one strawberry cheesecake and make that bill separate" I said

"You know I can pay. Why did you pack it?" Xavier asked

"It's for my.. my roommate She loves it and I don't want you to pay for it"

He nodded "So you do consider me handsome?"

"For someone who has an inability to pay attention you sure are good at it." I smirked

"I pay attention on things I like to hear. Like I'll pay attention when I'll hear you agree to my offer"

"Don't flatter yourself. Not gonna happen"

I kept playing with the fork and looking around trying my best to avoid this conversation. The interiors of this restaurant was amazing. I had made so many mental notes in just five minutes of looking around.

"I've seen your work Tara and I don't know what's stopping you and I understand that it must be really important to you but you need to understand the scope of growth involved in my offer. It'll help you in so many ways. I really need you on board with this project or else I wouldn't have bother this much."

"Xavier, I'll work knowing the level of importance but I can't just move. I've my own reasons for it. I've certain obligations I can't turn my back to. I'm ready to give you my 100% I'll pay visits I'll supervise from here. I've done many projects like this and they're all success I can handle yours too please I can't move no matter how big the opportunity is" I replied.

The food arrived and we ate in silence. I know I'm letting go something that means a lot to me but my reasons for letting this go is more important.

He paid the bill and without saying a word or looking he left. He didn't even offer a ride  back. I know it is important for him to and he's just being a jerk because he couldn't get want he  wanted so badly. I wish I could explain him the seriousness of  the situation but I can't. It's just going to one of the things I don't want people to know about. The less people know, the better.
