"Will you go out with me? Tomorrow night?"
Louis sits up, his cheeks quickly flush a dark pink as he gapes in slight shock at the boy in front of him who was holding a white rose.
The room had begun deathly quiet, and all Louis could think is why? Why now?
"Zach-" Louis sighs out, he glances beside him and sees Liam looking at him with wide brown eyes.
He doesn't dare glance behind him- but at the same time he can't help it. So he does, he takes a one second shot and he regrets it immediately.
Harry is looking straight at him, his hands are gripping the edge of the desk and his face is completely expressionless. But, it shouldn't matter.
And so Louis sits back against his chair and Zach is still looking at him with his hopeful blue eyes. It's been three weeks since Louis had detention with Harry, and they haven't spoke since (both in a good or bad way), the horrid rumors had finally died down. And Louis' tried to get back to his normal self . Harry still hasn't told him he's completely forgiven but Louis thinks they're on a better page now and- why is he thinking about Harry right now? Harry's made it quite obvious that even if he were to accept his apology, they won't ever be on the same page as before. So why shouldn't Louis try to at least be happy?
It's been over a month since they split up. So why won't Louis accept Zach's offer?
"Zach I don't-" and Louis stopped talking because really why shouldn't he accept? Harry and him were over, Harry hasn't bothered to even look at him until now, and Louis doesn't think that's quite fair really. Harry to make him feel guilty whenever he wants to. Louis' tried apologizing, over and over, to no avail. And so he smiles softly, "yeah, uh, okay."
Zach's face lights up and his smile grows so big, it causes Louis' heart to flutter to see his reaction. Zach leaned down and kissed his cheek. "Thanks." He whispered, and he handed Louis the Rose before turning towards his own desk. Louis slides the Rose beside his textbook, his fingers sliding against the soft petals all throughout the lesson, since the teacher walked in a moment later.
Louis lingers towards the end and Liam is quickly by his side. He helps Louis with his books and Louis is careful to not crush the flower. "You said yes." Liam exclaimed, slightly in shock.
"I know. I was there." Louis replied.
"Why? What about- Harry?" Liam said his name in a hushed tone.
"Harry broke up with me over a month ago, and when I last talked to him three weeks ago he made it clear that he wasn't going to forgive me anytime soon." Louis shrugged lightly.
"But, Lou, don't you think it's a bit too early too..." Liam gave him a pointed look.
"To go out with a friend? He's nice. He's a nice guy. It's not going to lead to anything, besides he asked me in front of the whole class I couldn't just say no. It'll be okay, I mean, I can't, I mean...it'll be okay Liam. I've apologized to Harry over and over and he made it super clear that if he does ever forgive me that nothing could ever possibly happen between us again. I can't, just wait around for that day to come. It'll be okay. He's nice." And it was as if Louis was trying to convince himself.
Liam only nodded, "did Harry say that?"
"What?"
"That nothing would ever happen between the two of you ever again?"
