♠chapter seven♠
GENEVIEVE•••
"I hate this." He sighed frustratedly. "I hate feeling like this."
Genevieve merely smiled at her twin. "I know."
Zevlin stared at his sister who was seated beside his bed. "I feel like a helpless newborn and I don't like —"
"Zevlin," she stated firmly, "I know. And I'm here for you, okay? So stop complaining and eat up."
A bowl sat on Genevieve's laps. She swirled the contents inside with a spoon before guiding it towards Zevlin's mouth.
But, once again, the older twin pursed his lips, refusing to open his mouth and be spoon fed.
Genevieve sighed for the umpteenth time, "Zev, please, stop being stubborn. You need it to regain your strength."
"I'm not a baby." He pouted, "I can feed myself, you know."
As if to prove a point, the older twin moved his hands to position himself upright, only to wince in pain and fall back on the pillows with a helpless thud.
Gen arched her brow at him, "See? You can barely lift your arm." Once again, Genevieve guided the spoon towards his mouth.
He looked away, ignoring the spoon. "It's just not right." He said.
"What's not right?"
Zevlin looked back at her sister, holding her gaze meaningfully, "You taking care of me."
Her mood soured, "You make it sound like it's a bad thing." She frowned, "You don't want me to take care of you?"
"No, it's not that," he added hastily, "It's just that . . ." Zevlin trailed off, looking around, as if searching for the right words.
"It's a new kind of strange feeling on my part," he finally explained. "I'm so used to looking after you, but ever since I woke up, I . . ."
Genevieve placed the bowl on the bedside table and reached for her brother's hand. "Zev, you need to stop thinking that way. I know that you've never been in this kind of position, but there's a first time for everything." She squeezed his hand reassuringly, "You know, if it makes you feel any better, I'm actually very happy taking care of you."
He smiled, but then frowned, "So, you're happy seeing me all weak and helpless —"
"Zevlin!" Gen snapped at him, almost losing her cool. "No! You know that that's not what I meant. Stop trying to see the negative side of things."
He sighed. "Fine."
She smiled, "Good." She took the bowl once again and attempted to feed her brother, hoping he'd stop being stubborn.
Zevlin stared at the spoon that hovered next to his mouth warily.
"You know, once you take a few spoonfuls of this, you'll regain your strength then you'll get a chance to feed yourself." Genevieve told him in a casual non-committal tone once she saw his hesitance.
He narrowed his eyes at the spoon, "What's this, anyway?"
"Ground soya bean soup."
Zevlin gave her a questioning and suspicious look. "Only that?"
"Olivia might have added a few herbs and concoctions." Genevieve shrugged nonchalantly.
The older twin's nose wrinkled in disgust, "No, thanks."
