Chapter Twenty

Ryder

Over the last month, life had gotten less chaotic. Tyler had come home, but he was going to therapy sessions every day, along with being put on depression pills. We didn’t bring up Adam, and he didn’t come around. I had thought after a while, he would at least come crawling back, it was clear he loved Tyler, but I was wrong.

Ally’s father wasn’t doing any better, but he wasn’t doing worse either. It was as if life was finally giving us all a break for once, and I was going to enjoy it. I planned to take Ally out on our first real date, something I had wanted to do but never had the chance. It was Friday night and I was damned if I was going to let anything stop me from taking her out. I had discussed it with Tyler last night; he was going to stay in with his dad, while Ally and I went out. Of course, if our date led to anything else, it would happen at my house, since it is currently vacant.

Ally had just walked in carrying a grocery bag from the store while Tyler and I were sprawled out on the couch watching ESPN.

“Where’s dad?” She asked, looking around.

“He’s still sleeping.” Tyler answered, pausing the TV.

            “Did you-“

“Yeah, I checked on him, I made sure he was alright.” Tyler said, cutting her off. “You need to relax a little bit.” He said, chugging down the rest of his soda.

“I’m sorry I’m so uptight, Tyler.” She said sarcastically. He rolled his eyes and sighed, putting himself in a different position on the couch. I followed her into the kitchen watching her as she unloaded her bag.

“He’s right you know, you do need a break.”

“Oh goody.” She muttered under her breath.

            “I know the perfect way.”

“I’m not egging another house again, Ryder. I don’t know how we got away last time but there is no way in hell I’m risking it again.” She warned, shaking her head as she put a gallon of milk in the fridge.

“What, no. Let’s go on a date tonight.” I rushed out. She looked up at me, cocking her head to the side. My eyes widened when I noticed that she didn’t really look like she wanted to go on a date.

            “Shit, if you-“

“You want to take me on a date?” She asked, as if she couldn’t believe that those words were coming from my mouth.
