Chapter Twenty- Six| Ally

Two weeks have passed and my days were starting to get easier. Tyler would go to therapy once a week and he would spend some time with Adam while they talked about what was next for them. Adam was encouraging him to go back to school or pick up a shift at work once again to start getting back into the swing of things when he was ready.  Tyler seemed to take into consideration what Adam was saying but I was unsure if he was going to do anything yet.

We all were in the awkward place where we wanted to move on, but we didn’t know how to without it being too much or not enough. It was difficult to think about being happy without my father around but I knew that this was just the beginning and it would get easier. It was hard to finally move on after grieving because there were so much you could do and so much, you didn’t want to do. I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted yet, but I knew that I would be disappointing my father if I continued to lay around the house depressed.

I finally made my decision with school and I was actually excited. I haven’t announced what I was planning to do but I knew that everyone was patiently waiting for me to decide. It was really hard to figure out what I wanted with school considering my situation at home. I thought about my father and what he wanted, and I knew that I had to start living again. Everyone was starting to pick up their life again and there was no reason that I couldn’t do the same.

Sitting around the dinner table, I took a deep breath and decided that this was probably the time to announce what I was planning to do. Everyone was here and since it was coming directly from me, there would be no confusion.

“Everyone, I have an announcement to make.” I said, setting down the fork to my pasta. Tyler and Adam looked over at me and Ryder’s mother took a sip of her water before giving me her undivided attention. Ryder was staring at me, probably wondering what the hell I was doing.

“You’re pregnant! Ryder, you have five seconds to run because I’m going to strangle you!” Tyler shouted, ready to lunge at Ryder. Ryder flinched back in his seat and he looked at me with pleading eyes. Adam held on to Tyler while he muttered words under his breath.

“Ally, you think you could have told me this before you announced it in front of everyone?” Ryder groaned. I didn’t have a chance to correct him because Tyler jumped in before I did.

“I knew you looked a little bigger.” He grunted. I dropped my jaw and threw my napkin at him.

“Calm down, I’m not pregnant you asshole!”

                “You’re not pregnant?” Ryder asked.

                “No!”

“Then what’s the big news?” Tyler sighed, relaxing once again. Adam rubbed his arm to calm him down and shot me a small smile.

“I’ve decided about school.” I huffed.

“You did?” Ryder’s mom asked. “What did you figure out?”

“I decided that I’m going away for school instead of staying here.” I said quietly. I didn’t want to look at Tyler, but I was nervous to hear what he had to say. What if he felt like I was leaving him too? I didn’t want him to feel that way, but this was something I needed to do.

Ryder was grinning; patting my arm he kissed my head and rested his hand on my thigh. Winston started licking my toes under the table and that surprisingly calmed me down.
