🍭 JØSH'S PØV🍭
One by one, people were going "YES" or fistbumping their bandmates when their name or band was called out. Oh nice, Ray's band got in, as well as the guy sitting in front of us with his brother, I think he's friends with Tyler too.
"...Joshua Dun and Tyler Joseph..."
The smol bean sitting next to me held up a hand and I instinctively gave him a high five without even looking. Yep, we definitely had some telepathy.
Okay, I'd be surprised if we actually didn't get in. Tyler is just so good.
"Um... Thanks for everything... it was fun."
"Haha you make it sound like we'll never see each other again."
"Will we?"
"Will we not?"
Tyler looked away and smiled. "...then that's perfect."
Mr Urie had finished reading out the list and there we heard some sighs and mutterings. A really vulgar dude sitting behind us was having a heated argument with a long haired guy, not so pleasant to listen to but it did make me realise that working with Tyler actually went pretty well, compared to the other four pairs. Mr Wentz dismissed us after talking a bit more about the next round and how it's gonna be different.
"Tyjo!" I heard Ray call out and Tyler turned to look. "Didn't get to say this just now, you were really impressive!"
"Ah." he smiled meekly. "didn't get to watch you, but I could hear your riffs from outside...sick!"
"But Ty, you're really sure you don't wanna join me and my band?"
Tyler looked at him nervously. "Uhh..."
"Hey, Josh?" an unfamiliar voice called from behind. It was the guy with his brother. "I'm Gerard, I heard you and Tyler just now from backstage, and you were real good..."
Yeah he seems nice, and he probably is, he's friends with Tyler after all. I averted my eyes to Tyler for a brief moment, he was still talking to Ray. This felt a bit random.
"I know we just met, but I was wondering if you'd like to join my brother and I... Two guitars don't exactly make a band."
"Oh, we're allowed to do that?!"
"Yeah, I kinda overheard Ray asking Mr Ross when we were backstage. The judges actually encourage people to play as bands, the typical 'teamwork is important' stuff, that's why they were pairing up people in the first place."
I immediately thought of Tyler. So we can choose to stick together? I glanced at him again, hoping he'd look back.
LOL you think he'd want to
continue working with you?
He could easily choose his
best friend with the afro right there.
Why you? You're not that good anyway. Please, I really like Tyler. Playing together with him, I mean. But holy crap, I really hate making choices sometimes. Or being given them.
"Gerard uh thanks I might consider, though if I could choose I'd really like to play with Tyler again. But really, thanks."

"Well uhh thanks...but I seriously think you and Gee and his brother would make a great band." I was obviously trying to change the topic, hoping Ray wouldn't notice.
He glanced in Gerard's direction and I followed, realizing he was talking to Josh. That's peculiar.
"He's already asking Josh to join him, see?"
"So we really can do that?" my eyes widened.
"Yeah, Ray asked Mr Ross backstage." Frank added, then turned his attention back to Gerard.
Sure I did consider joining my best friend, besides, we'd each have one less competitor... But I didn't quite understand what was holding me back... Is it bad to reject your best friend for someone else? I might have liked how it was with Josh.
I looked to my left again. What's not to love about Gee? Of course Josh would want to join someone like that.
Tyler, face it, you've got no chance.
...but Ray does.
With a hand on his shoulder, I somewhat dragged my him towards the guy with the greasy hair.
"Let's sort things out," I declared. Josh stood to my side.
Wow what a strange decision to make, but it's really now or never, I told myself. It's not nice when best friends become strangers. It was obvious they had lots to say, but the words weren't coming out. We just looked at each other, but it wasn't awkward. We all needed this chance.
Ok then things got really unlucky because Ray's phone rang just when Gee was about to open his mouth.
"I'm s...I really need to go."
Great. Terrific. Just frickin awesome.
We watched him rush off, and Gerard turned to leave with Mikey before I could do anything.

I don't know what I just witnessed, but it was serious. This might be a really bad time - Tyler looked rather stunned - but I wasn't gonna let it go just like that.
The next thing I knew, I was holding on to Tyler by the arm.
Dream on, he'll nev...
"Wnna b uh band?" he spluttered out.
