"You better open this damn door!" my dad yelled from

the other side. I ignored him as I threw clothes into the

biggest suitcase I could find in my room. I open my

window and throw it out the window. "Hayley, you better

listen to me!" my dad continued banging against the door.

I grab my cell phone and bus ticket off the dresser taking a

glimpse in the mirror at the blackeye forming before sneakingout

the window and heading for the bus terminal.

"La Push, Washington terminal," I heard as I jolted awake. I turn my head to look out the window. Small houses and woods as far as the eye could see. My mind was reeling from this latest dream.

Not many people knew about my abusive father. You see my mom passed away when I was six and I had to live with my dad. Then he started drinking and would hit me for any little thing. I felt trapped in my house until one day I couldn't take it anymore. I needed to escape the pain evenif that meant leaving everything I've ever known.

That's why I left and am now on my way to La Push where my uncle lives. Hopefully he'll take me in. I hadn't seen him in eleven years so there was no telling if he'd even remember me. The bus pulled to a stop at the terminal. I picked up my suitcase and swiftly got off the bus. People would do a double take at me but I knew it wasn't because of what I was wearing but because of the black eye I received at the hand of my dad.

I kept my head lowered as I stepped out onto the platform. There wasn't mush to the La Push terminal but luckily they had cabs waiting to take the newcomers to their destination. I got in a cab, told the driver the address, and off we went. In less then fifteen minutes. After I paid the cab driver, I watched as he pulled away, leaving me to face my own troubles.

I stood looking at the house for what seemed like hours before cautiously walking up on the porch with my suitcase in hand. Questions began racing through my mind. Would he take me in? What would he say? What would life be like here? I took a deep breath and knocked on the door.

I heard movement coming from within the house. Then a man opened the door.He was very tall, taller then I remembered, and had very kind eyes. He gave me a smile that was warm and friendly. "Hello sweetie, what can I do for you?" he asked as he wiped down a dish in his hand.

"Are you Sam...Sam Uley?" I asked setting my suitcase on the porch. My nerves were starting to kick in.

"Yes I am. Who are you?" he replied. *Great he doesn't even recognize me* I thought as I tried to prepare myself for the bomb I was about to drop on him.

"Um, it's me Uncle Sam.....Hayley," I exclaimed with a weak smile. His face contorted in confusion for a moment trying torecall my name. When it hit him, his eyes grew wide. The plate in Sam's hand fell and crashed on the porch. What a wonderful start to this reunion.
