"Stop where you are. You're not welcome here," Jacob commanded standing up beside me. I could feel the heat radiating off him. I keep my eyes on my dad who stopped a few yards away. "I believe I'm welcomed wherever I want to be boy," my dad spoke taking another swig of beer and wiping his mouth with his sleeve. I heard a deep growl come from Jacob. I grabbed Jacob's hand and he immediately relaxed. "Come here Hayley," my dad said pointing to a spot in front of him. I stood my ground next to Jacob. "Now!" he yelled getting angry. It made me jump. I took a step forward but Jacob spun me around to face him. "You don't have to listen to him," he stated, looking at my dad then back at me. "I need to deal with this so he doesn't have any control over me," I reply.
I could tell that Jacob was torn on what to do. "I'll be right behind you," he said. I nod and take a deep breath turning to face my dad. I walk up to him. Jacob's heat could still be faintly felt behind me. I could smell the beer on my father's breath. "So you thought you could just leave and I wouldn't find you," he asked laughing. "I was tired of--"I began but was interrupted by my dad slapping me across the face. "Hey!"I heard Jacob growl but I held my hand up to stop him from advancing. My cheek burned like it was on fire but I was use to the pain. I'm sure I'd have a bruise later. "Now you are going to get in the car and I'm taking you home," my dad exclaimed motioning to the car. "I'm not going with you," I replied sternly, rubbing my cheek. "What did you say?" my dad questioned. "I said I'm not going,"I say taking a step back. My dad's face dropped. I could see the anger and embarrassment in his eyes.
Then he snapped, grabbing me hard by the arm. Pain shot through my arm as I let out a scream. "You disrespectful little whore," my father yelled shaking me violently. "Jacob," I holler reaching out for him, trying to get away from my dad. I looked over and Jacob was trembling all over. I knew he was about to explode. I didn't want him to change and hurt anyone including himself. "Sam," I shouted as loud as I could. Sam ran out of the house, jumping over the steps. "Control yourself," I heard him command Jacob as he ran past him. "Let her go Daniel," Sam exclaimed coming up to us. My dad threw me to the ground and I scrambled over to Jacob. He took me into a protective hug then stood blocking me from my dad. "I think it's time for you to leave," Sam said sternly pushing my dad a little. "I ain't going without Hayley," my dad replied pointing in my direction. "Well you can't have her," Jacob stated taking a defensive step forward. I grabbed his arm not wanting him to fight. "Jake, take Hayley in the house," Sam commanded.
Jacob put his arm around me and led me to the house where Emily was standing in the doorway. We walked by her and sat on the couch. Emily looked worried for Sam but exuded this confidence that Sam would handle it. I wish I had that confidence. Jacob got up to go back outside but I grabbed his hand. "Don't leave me by myself," I pleaded looking up at him. He looked down at me and sat back down, wrapping me in his warm embrace. I sat there listening to Jacob's heartbeat. It was so soothing. We could still hear words being exchanged outside until a car engine started. Sam came back into the house followed by Emily. He knelt down in front of me. "You don't have to worry about him, I took care of it," Sam said reassuringly. I nodded in response feeling Jacob tightened his arms around me. When he said that, something in his voice made me believe him but made me wonder what he said or did to my dad. Then I decided that I didn't want to know. The atmosphere calmed down as the night went on.
After dinner, Jacob and I went to my room. "So that trembling, were you about to change?" I ask, tracing his hand. We were laying on my bed relaxing. "Yeah if I get too angry, I could change. I've been working on controlling it," he replied. "Do you have to go on patrol tonight?" I questioned turning to look at him. "Unfortunately," He sighed looking back at me. I was disappointed by his answer but I knew why he had to. "Well be careful out there. I don't want anything to happen to you or the others," I say leaning back on the bed. "I'll be fine," Jacob stated sitting up so he could look down at me. He leaned down and gave me a quick kiss before standing up. "Oh and I want you to meet my dad officially tomorrow," he said heading toward the door. I prop myself on my elbows to look at him. "That's cool," I replied. He looked back with a smirk. I stuck my tongue out at him before he left. He laughed and closed the door behind him. I lay back on my back and stare at the ceiling. I had a wolf as a boyfriend and as friends, my dad came to"visit", and had a yelling match with Sam. Could there ever be a boring day in La Push?
