I turn in my seat to face the front. My head was spinning and my heart was breaking. I felt almost empty being so far away from Jacob. How could I just leave? My whole life, family, friends, Jacob, was back there going to fight these evil creatures. Anything could happen to them, and I along with Emily, wouldn't know. I can't do this, I thought to myself, knowing in my heart what I had to do. "Stop," I say looking at Emily from where I sat. "What?" she replied, looking at me confused in the rearview mirror. "Stop the car!" I exclaim reaching to open the door.

As I begin to open the door, Emily slams on the brakes. The car was still in motion when I jump out. I stumble with my footing a little but catch myself and took off in the direction Jacob went. "Hayley come back!" Emily yelled from the car. I paid her no attention as I entered the woods. I had no idea how to find Jacob but I knew he could find me. He told me that werewolves had great hearing so I was going to put that to the test. It might be risky but at this point I didn't care. "Jacob," I yelled running through the woods, the sky growing darker with every minute. "Jake!" I yelled again dodging branches and remaining in a sprint until I came to an opening. I stopped to catch my breath and get my bearings.

I looked around the clearing and recognized the place. It was the cliff where Jacob first told me about him being a werewolf and his imprint. I walked further out into the opening. "Ja-" I begin to scream but am cut off when I hear something from the woods behind me. I turn really fast and saw Jacob step out of the woods in human form, breathless. We both met in the middle, hugging each other tightly. "Are you crazy? What are you doing?" Jacob said not releasing me. "I'm sorry Jacob. I couldn't do it, I couldn't leave," I reply, burying my face into his chest, taking in his scent once again. "Its ok Hayley. I'm just glad your safe ," he said kissing the top of my head. " I just figured that if you were fighting, then so was I," I said firmly looking at him. I wasn't quite sure what I could do but I'd try my best. He gave me a quick kiss before hugging me again.

The night sky was dark now but the moon shone brightly. I was warm next to Jacob. "How touching," I heard someone say from behind Jacob toward the woods. I felt Jacob tense up and I immediately became scared. Jacob turned which helped me see that it was Ian, standing at the edge of the woods. Jacob moved so that he was standing protectively in front of me. I could feel the blood drain from my face as I watched Ian step closer and into better view. "We meet again. Did you enjoy the gift I left with your house?" Ian smirked gliding slowly forward. "Stay where you are bloodsucker," Jacob growled deeply. Ian let out a evil chuckle and his red eyes flashed in the moonlight.I could tell Jacob was getting angrier and I touched his arm to let him know I'm here. "Just give me the girl dog and you won't have to ever see me again," Ian replied getting irritated. "You stay away from her. If you want her then you're going to have to go through me first," Jacob said firmly moving even more in front of me. "That can be done," he said raising a hand and snapping his fingers.

Out of the woods walked fifteen other vampires. They were blocking any path to the woods. My eyes grew wide and my breathing quickened. Jacob and I stepped back a little bit. I was scared...scared for me....scared for Jacob. We we basically cornered between the vampires and the big dropoff at the cliff. We were now a couple feet from the edge. One of the biggest vampires I've ever seen, even bigger then Emmett, stood next to Ian. "Last time dog.....hand over the girl," Ian demanded. "Never," Jacob growled getting in almost a defensive stance. Ian smirked as he just pointed to us, motioning the big one.

The big vampire started towards us and Jacob launched at him, pushing me to the side away from the cliif and the inevitable fight. It all happened so fast after that. The big one and Jacob clashed together. They scuffled for what seemed like seconds and then he grabbed Jacob by the throat. The vampire then slammed him to the ground. Jacob's body went weak. I could see that he wasn't as strong and fast healing in human form as he was as a wolf. I tried to get to him but was grabbed by Ian. "Jake get up," I said tears almost spilling down my cheeks. I knew he had to be in some sort of pain for his body to go weak like it had.

"Don't fret, you're in good hands," Ian spoke to me, rubbing a cold hand on my neck. Jacob began to stir but the big vampire had him to the ground. "Watch this," Ian whispered in my ear then motioned to the one holding Jacob. He lifted Jacob by the throat and held him over the edge of the cliff. Then with a smile, he let Jacob fall. "No Jacob!" I yelled struggling against Ian's grasp. I kept pulling against him but couldn't escape. Jacob slipped below the edge, completely disappearing from sight. It all seemed in a cruel slow motion. "Let go of me you murderers! Let me go! Jake! Jacob!" I cried, tears rolling, kicking and punching at Ian. The next thing I knew I was being pulled fast through the woods. The clearing disappeared from my eyes. Taking me away from the cliff, away from Jacob.
