The next couple of days went by smoothly. I kept my suspicions to myself and was really getting used to living here. Sam and Emily were absolutely great and were totally cute together. I ignored my father's attempts at contacting me. I didn't want to talk to him or even see him. Emily had gotten me into La Push High and today was my first day. Luckily Sam let me drive his old car so I wouldn't have to ride the bus.

I pulled into the parking lot and headed to the office to get my schedule. "Math, science, pe, history, and english," I said to myself as I walked through the halls reading my schedule. However, since I wasn't pay attention I ran smack dab into someone. I fell to the ground, dropping all my papers and books. "Hey watch where you're going,"a girl exclaimed looking down at me. "I didn't mean too," I replied picking up everything. Why don't you apologize new girl," the guy next to her said. I ignored him, standing with my books in hand. "I'm talking to you," the guy yelled, knocking the books to the floor once again. "Hey!" I yelled in return getting angry. I stood toe to toe with him until his expression changed. Their faces dropped and started backing away. "Sorry," the guy said putting an arm around the girl and walking the opposite direction. Why the hell did he do that?,  I thought. Suddenly I felt a tap on my shoulder.

I turned to see Seth with three other guys and a girl standing behind me. "Hey...Seth, right?" I say tentively. "Yeah and your Sam's niece Hayley. You've seen me before but this is my sister Leah, Quil, Embry, and Jacob," Seth replied pointing to each as he said their names. Leah looked like she could care less to be meeting me, Quil and Embry smiled and waved, and Jacob looked completely spaced out while looking at me. The guys were all attractive but by far Jacob was the best looking. He was tan, short black hair, and really warm brown eyes. I shake all of their hands and stopped at Jacob. "So you're the one who just got back. It's nice to meet you," I say extending my hand for him to shake. He hesitated for a moment, seeming to break from his daze. "Same here," he replied gently taking my hand. His touch was electrifying. It was as if we were the only ones standing in the hall. It came to an end when Leah cleared her throat. We slowly retracted our hands. I give him a little smile and turn back to Seth. "Thanks for the backup," I say. "No prob," he replied bending to help pick up my stuff.

After a few more minutes of talking to them and staring from Jacob, we parted ways. School, to put it delicately, sucked. I was definetly behind and had to catch up before the school year ended. I felt like I had a ton of work and books shoved in my bookbag when I threw it in the passenger seat after school. I made some more friends and even had some classes with Jacob and Leah. I hate to admit it but I was getting a crush on Jacob. I barely know the guy but he wasn't like the others. But who was I kidding? There was no way he'd like me. All these thoughts were going through my mind as I drove home. The road wasn't busy and on both sides were woods. As I drove, something caught my eye out of my perifial vision. There were no cars around me so I glanced over toward the woods. All I saw were blurs of color racing along the car in the woods. I make sure I'm on my side of the road before glancing back at the woods. Whatever it was, it was no longer there.

When I looked back at the road, from the woods bolted a large russet wolf that came to a stop once he saw the car. I slammed on the brakes, stopping inches from him. The wolf stared straight at me. He was the biggest wolf I had ever seen. His eyes were almost human as he looked at me. I stared over the steering wheel, trying to slow my erratic breathing. Suddenly another one showed up at the edge of the woods. This one was black and looked to be older then the one that stood in front of me. The russet wolf looked at the one near the woods and then back at me before running back into the woods. I sat there for another moment until I saw a car comin in my rearview mirror. I began the journey back home, my thought reeling from this encounter. La Push was a strange place and I was going to get to the bottom of it.
