My lungs burned, aching for air. I dodged and jumped over stones and around trees trying to get away. It didn't matter though. How fast I ran, how far I went, I couldn't escape. Everywhere I looked, I saw red eyes. They were thirsty for blood....my blood. "Leave me alone," I yelled, not slowing my pace. A low, evil laugh was my only response. My heart was racing. I finally came to an abrupt stop. There they stood. Ian, Antony, and Hector stood smirking at me. "Why are you doing this?" I asked almost in a whisper. "Because we can," Ian stated. Then they ran at me, teeth bared. I screamed as they got right on top of me.
I sat straight up in bed. A dream, it was just a dream. I had been having the same one since the running incident two days ago. My room was dark and it was storming outside. My hands were clamy and I had broken into a little bit of a sweat. I look around and see Jacob sleeping beside me. He must have come in after his night patrol shift. He was sound asleep, snoring loudly and shaking the bed. I was surprised that he didn't wake me up. He looked so cute sleeping. He was smiling so he must be having a good dream. It made me smile.
I looked back out at the rain coming down. It was like the sky had opened up. I couldn't see anything past the big tree outside my window. I noticed that the window was left ajar and rain was soaking my floor, leaving a puddle. I'm going to have to speak with Jake about this, I thought throwing the covers off my legs. I slowly made my way to the window. Careful of where I stood, I put my hands on the top of the sliding window and pushed hard. The window didn't budge which was wierd. Suddenly out of the sheets of rain came an arm, grabbing my throat. I grabbed the arm, scared to death. In the window stepped Ian, dripping wet and not letting go. I tried to say something but his hold was cutting off my air. "Hello again my dear," he said with a smirk. Tears started to fill my eyes. "Oh don't cry, I'm not here to kill you yet. I'm here to send a message," he said maintaining his grip. I tore at his hand to release but it had no affect on him. "Now you listen. Your dogs killed my mate and I vowed revenge. Tell the pack and those vampires helping them to stop their tracking before someone gets hurt," he continued, "and by someone I mean you and the rest of the pathetic humans that reside with this pack." I let out a whimper, images flashing through my mind of all my loved ones hurt or even dead. Ian lifted his free hand to brush a hair out of my face. I grimaced at his cold touch, missing the warmth of Jacob's hold.
"Hey, let her go!" I heard growled behind me. I was let go as Jacob came bolting at us. Ian escaped out the window before Jacob could catch him. I fell to the ground holding my throat. "Sam," Jacob yelled kneeling down to me, trembling. Sam and Emily came bursting through the door. Emily came to me and Sam ran to Jacob. "What happened?" he demanded kneeling down as well. "That lead bloodsucker was in here and had ahold of Hayley," Jacob replied trembling harder, clenching his fists. I have never seen his body ripple like that. He was about to bust and change from his anger. "Get out of here before you change and tell the others," Sam said pulling Jake toward the window. Jacob nodded trying to breath and looked back at me symapthetically before jumping out the window into the rain. "It's ok, he's gone. The pack will get them," Emily exclaimed rubbing my back and rocking me. I cryed into her shoulder as Sam came back to us. "We'll get them Hayley, they won't hurt anyone," Sam says touching me on the head. Ian's message played over and over in my head. I couldn't have anyone hurt because of me. It would kill me. We sat there, the three of us together, listening to the sound of the rain drum on the roof.
