Chapter 9: The Full Moon

Jacob’s POV

I haven’t fallen asleep all night. After the meeting happened. Why would my dad accept Kris in so easily? unless he knows something we don’t know?  He would protect the tribe, our land, us from an outsider. But this situation is something different. She doesn’t know what she is. If only I can read her mind, so I can see what really happened. I laid in bed tossing and turning, watching the full moon shine down upon my room. This isn’t working. I got out of bed, out of my house and started running into the woods. Unzipping my sweater, taking off my shirt and slipping out of my sweats. My wolf inside me wanted to run, so I formed, dodging trees as I ran, and finally stopping as I reached the highest mountain. I look down beneath my town; a few lights were on from the distance. The skies were clear, clouds grew apart, and the full moon shine through the shadowing forest, while the waves steady and sound of the old forest gather in whispers. This was the night I wanted to howl, my wolf within me wanted to howl without informing others in alert. But suddenly, I picked up a slight sound of whimpering, and it was coming from the Clearwater’s home. I started running in that direction, my wolf within me was prepared for whatever danger lies ahead. Checking around their house and watching the woods carefully for whatever strange noise I picked up, I would chase, but there were no signs of danger. Kris was having a nightmare. I watched her through the window where the full moon showed upon her face. Her skinned glowed beneath the dark amazingly. I wanted to lay my hands on her soft skin, touching her smooth lips with my bare fingers. Of all the women on this earth, you are the single most beautiful one. I have never seen a woman with such long, lustrous hair and such stunning body. I know deep in my heart that this was wrong of my heart started pounding. I watched her for too long. Suddenly, Leah had woken her up in time.

“Please don’t die” Kris said with a shout while Leah woke her.

I wondered… all morning I stood by their house. Seemed best since they were both still awake, only waited till one of them actually fell asleep. I shouldn’t have come here. It was already 6am, so I went back home, showered, got ready and headed into Emily’s place to eat breakfast. Walking over to Emily’s place, I’ve look down to the Clearwater’s home and seen Kris has woken.

“She’s up early.” I said. She looked up in my direction as I looked away. She must have heard me. I hope she didn’t notice I was there last night. Finally reaching to Emily’s place I began to knock on her door.

“You’re up early?” Emily said while smiling

“Ya.. well I haven’t slept all night actually.”

“Oh? How come? I made some muffins. Help yourself.” she smiled while heading towards the refrigerator.

“Eh, got a lot of things on my mind.” As I toke a big bite on my muffin.

All of a sudden, Seth arrives without even knocking. He looked upset.

“What’s up Seth?” I said

“Hey…” he grabbed a muffin as he ate it

“Umm, did something happen?” I raised my eyebrows.

“No… just wanted Kris to come over and meet Emily.” Seth said

I choke on a muffin just a little before gulping the last piece while drinking milk.

“OH! The new wolf girl?” Emily said with excitement. “Well why didn’t she come?”

“Leah…” he said

Finally, Sam’s comes down kissing Emily all over as usually. Embry and Quil come up behind me grabbing the muffin I was about to take. They both laugh.

“Very funny guys.” I said while rolling my eyes as I smirked

“Don’t worry, I made plenty of more” Emily giggled

“Where’s Kris?” Paul finally spoke from behind Jared

“Leah stopped her.” I said

“No…” Seth finally spoke. “Leah just got on my bad mood this morning. Kris didn’t feel like coming…she didn’t even eat at our place at all.”

“She didn’t eat anything?” Sam and Emily spoke at the same time

“When’s the last time she ate?” Emily said

We all stood silent, looking around yet no one knew. We didn’t even ask her.

“The poor girl must be starving and scared. Did you guys even think of inviting her to my place?” Emily spoke with a serious tone. We all looked away, epically me. I didn’t even think about that.

“Fine, I’ll go.” Jared, Paul and I spoke.

“I would go too! But Leah…” Seth looked away

“pfsh…I’m not scared of Leah” Paul said

“No I mean, she gets inside my head without permission.” Seth groaned.

“Why?...never mind..” I shook my head

I know Jared is just being nice as always but why is Paul being nice? I looked at him oddly.

“What?” Paul said

Everyone looked at him oddly, even Sam.

“I’m not going to do anything bad.” Paul said with a smirked

“You better behave around her.” Emily spoken

We were all about to head out but the door was open, nearly knocked Paul over. He finally rose up, furious. Looking at however knocked him over was a goner. The door opens widely for everyone to see, it was Kris.

“Paul don’t...” Sam orders him. Everyone looked at Paul, hoping he would calm down.

“Why couldn’t you knock first?” Paul yelled at her as she gazed down scared. I wanted to beat the crap out of Paul so badly. Finally Leah moves in front of Kris, face to face with Paul. Oooh..great….

“Because I’m the one who told her to open it!” She yelled back defending her.

“Great..another idiot.” Paul replied

“What kind of an idiot will stand next to a door?” Leah said

Some of us chuckled.

“I’m sorry…” Kris whispered

“Damn right you should apologize.” Paul looked at Kris over Leah shoulders.

“The only dog that should be apologizing is you!” She shoved Paul out of the way. “We only came here to talk to Jacob alone.”

Oh great, do they know I was there last night? Damn, I am in deep shit. Epically with Leah if she gets angry. Suddenly, Kris disappears and starts running towards the woods. No one saw her undressed but she formed quickly and ran.

“KRIS!!” Leah ran out of the house

“Nice going Paul!” I shoved him out of the way

“Whatever happened of behaving yourself?” Emily said. “You hurt her feelings, now she thinks we don’t want her.” Emily storms out of the kitchen.

Paul knew his punishment while Sam looked away. I didn’t care what Sam did with him. I told Seth and Leah to follow me. We’ll go after Kris. In case she returns, I ask Sam to stay.

“Do you know where she’s heading?” I asked Leah

“Ya…” she nodded. “She’s going back to Forks again.”

“Why does she want to go there?” I looked confused

“Because of the little girl” Leah said

“Wait..I’m still confuse.”

“That’s why we came to Emily’s place. She wanted to ask you if she can see her. Kris already told her what she is.” She paused for a moment “Jake.. Kris doesn’t like what she is. I heard her talking, in her sleep last night. Whoever died…she blames herself for it.” Leah said while we ran in our wolf’s form. We finally stop, when we see Kris up ahead. She was looking down at the town, Kris knew we were behind her or else she would have be running by now.  Leah stood by her side. I was blown away when Kris began to howl. Her howling was the touch of our hearts, so deep and intense for the sorrow and guilt she wheels inside, this burden she carries. The touch of her howling made us grew closer. I know Leah and Seth have felt it too.
