“Leah, what’s going on??”
I watched the boy and his family disappeared into the forest as Sam and I were the last ones standing, besides Leah. He didn’t bother to look us. Sam and I aren’t really close; he did kept an eye over me sometimes. I’m always wondering what his thinking. He headed back home as Leah and I walked through the forest alone. She watched Sam disappeared, I suddenly realize she was in her protective stance. Was she protecting me from Sam? Or perhaps I was overly thinking it. When she formed back into her human self, I cover her with a blanket I was caring.
We stayed quite throughout the whole night.
Unknown Voice- “It’s okay..It’s okay…the burning sensation is natural” as he whispered, wetting the towel over my forehead. Suddenly, I woke up, realizing I stopped breathing. “Another hazy dream..who was that voice?” I said to myself. I was afraid of not breathing again if I went back to sleep, so I
stayed up all night crying silently. All I remember…was the man’s green eyes..his face became a blur after that.
I yawned at the breakfast table.
“Didn’t get much any sleep last night?” Leah said
I shook my head…no another dream
Leah looked at me with such concern and patted my shoulder. “Are you sure your feeling alright?”
I nodded “Yeah, it’s nothing.” I couldn’t tell her about my dreams…not yet that is. I grabbed my backpack and headed out. Seth come down stairs, I can tell their reading each other’s minds again. Conner pulls up as usual, honking. I laughed a little. I’m glad she was here.
Suddenly, Leah pulls my shoulders in. “Don’t let the leaches near you.” She said
“Leaches?”
“Those blood suckers” she responded to my question yet I was still confused what she meant. She stared, confused to my expression. “Do you know what they are?” Leah said to me
I couldn’t find the answer…I know they were different than me and a human so I shrugged a little.
“You have no idea what they are?” as she gasped
“Am..I suppose too?” as I gulped my answer down my throat.
“Do you remember the stories we mention at the bonfire a couple of months ago?” She said
I nodded “Of course.”
“Those are the blood suckers. They kill humans to survive but the ones we met last night…the ones you met at your school drink animal blood. I still don’t trust them one bet” as she said in a disgust tone
“If you’re ever in trouble, I’ll come after you. We’re family Kris” as she hugged me while letting go. I can tell she was worried.
Finally arriving to school, I ignore their smell and their stairs. How uncomfortable it was to be watch by them? Epically, that boy who was with me and Conner, in the woods last night. I stared back at him, hoping he would stop…but he didn’t. Entering my class I wave goodbye to Conner, at least it’s best if they keep their distance from me.
The bell rings
“We have a new student in class. Well not new but welcome back Mr.Cullen. Please take a seat next to Kris.” He smiled “We will begin of what is wrong with welfare taxes in our society? Please look into your Government text books as we begin.”
I couldn’t look at him yet he insists on starring. I pulled my chair away from him; his smell was frustrating for me to concentrate. It wasn’t sweet nor disgusting, just hard to understand.
Slowly I gazed up at him; his deep eyes mist of goldenness. Somehow, without explaining it…my wolf within me didn’t want to run away either.
“Hello… I’m Edward Cullen”
Unknowing my starring, he waited for my answer.
“This is the part when you introduce yourself.” He smiled
I blinked a couple of times.. “Oh right. I’m Kris.” Smiling as I look away.
We stood silently looking into our textbooks. “I know what you are…” I whispered to him. “Well.. not you directly..but of what you are…I think..” I didn’t know what to say.. I was lost with words.
“I don’t think we should be talking about this in public.. “ he replied back quietly.
I nodded.
Class had ended as I grab my things and headed to the cafeteria. I wasn’t really hungry but told Conner I’ll be in the woods if she needed me. Which made her concern but I just wanted to be alone from everything.
I was looking back, hoping no one was following me. Finally resting on the ground, I closed my eyes and thought about that man in my dream. I know he has something to do with my past..but only his green eyes remain in my thought.
I enjoyed every last breath I toke, the silent forest, the deer’s passing through the west. Surprisingly how far my hearing can go, I never seem to test my abilities. Quickly, I heard a whispering wind rushing through. Winds can’t control themselves? Opening my eyes, I knew what it was. I quickly stood up, looking, searching for who it was. He stood behind me and I face to turn to him. I couldn’t decide whether to run or defend myself…but he simply stood there. Was he watching me this whole time? I gave him an odd look. He seemed lost with words but I can tell what he wanted to say.
“Did…you follow me…?”
He slightly nodded
The wind brushed beneath my hair as we stood silently deep within the forest. He finally toke a step forward while I was unable to move. Why couldn’t I move? For some strange reason, I knew he wasn’t any threat. Suddenly he was too close to me than I expected, I looked away and toke a step back.
“I think lunch is over…we should probably head back” Edward said
I shook my head gently.
“Oh…right, you don’t want to be seen by me?” He smiled softly
“…It’s not that...”
He looked at me oddly and alerted, I’m assuming he was looking for the wolves. “Then…what is stopping you?”
I looked at him with despair “…fear. That’s what’s stopping me.” I gave him a smile and walked away.
I didn’t head back to school nor was I heading to La-Push. I just wanted to be alone from everything. This…was all too much for me to handle. Why is he still following me? I knew he was following me since I walked away, but somehow he made me smile …deep inside. He grabbed my hand, losing my train of thoughts to my surprise. I quickly pulled away and turned to face him.
He toke a step back “You don’t know where you’re heading…?”
Ignoring his question, I came forth and slowly touched his cheek. He did not move, he did not breathe, and he only stared into my eyes. Gently brushing his cheek with my fingertips, I become so curious to what kind of creature he truly is. Nothing like the stories I’ve heard whenever we have a bonfire celebration. My eyes gazed at his cheek, then his lips…and slowly gazing up, to his eyes. Locked, untouched, his skin was amazingly cold while mine felt it was on fire… Like, two elements that couldn’t be touched… nor near one another. I’m fire… his ice… which is why we’re mortal enemies… before my time… before his time.. yet I was locked into his eyes.
“You’re not a monster…” He suddenly broke the silence
I dropped my hands quickly. “You don’t know me… “
“Then give me that chance?” He said
“Hmmm….” I stared at him
“Do we vampires ‘have’ to drink human blood? Yes, but my family and I ‘choose’ not too. It’s a ‘choice’ we make. You should try it sometimes” as he smiled
Did he know what I was thinking? Or does he know how I felt...? I wanted to cry and smile all at the same time. Finally someone who understood me of being a monster I am…
