Chapter 14: Lines of flame

Edward’s POV

The horizon hills are still rimmed by a faint line of flame, and the sky above them glows with the crimson flush of the sunset. The plan was to meet with the wolves before sunrise. They are dangerous, especially when racing east to catch any outsider through their lands.

Only the boundaries between Forks and La-push kept us steady. They revealed themselves beneath the dark woods. I wondered the difficulties of reading their thoughts if she was here.

From the corner of my eye, I hear a deep growl roomed through the woods. Leah?  Apparently, she broke the silence between us. Without any hesitation she notices I was looking for her.

Earlier in Forks, we told Carlisle what we’ve seen. He was more worried about our family than the safety of their kind.

Jacob came forward as I’ve seen his information he kept. He was more relieved without us harming her.

“She’s not a threat” I spoke to the whole family. “The wolves had her under control, she’s not a danger to humans or our kind.”

Though, the curiosity of her made me...

“Then we trust her in your hands.” Carlisle said with a nod

Just as we were about to leave, I looked away…knowing the truth behind their lies.

“What it is Edward?” Alice said with concern

I looked up at Jacob with confusion. “They are only watching her …because she’s a danger towards them?”

“What..does that mean? I don’t understand” Alice said as Jasper came into a protective position.

“It ..means ..if she doesn’t accept who she is..or what she is.. she’ll turn into something dark. Something unstoppable.”

“Unstoppable?” Jasper said with a curious tone

“What will she turn into?” Carlisle said with concern

“A… Kanima..?” I said with hesitation, unknowing about the legend. I couldn’t read Jacob’s thoughts anymore. Why?  I looked around. She’s here…but where?

“What’s a Kanima?” Emmett waited for me to answer but I couldn’t. I couldn’t tell them how she made my abilities weakened. The wolves decided to walk back, they must have sense she was near. Only Sam stayed behind. In his eyes told a different story than Jacob’s. His seems more fixated on a prey…his waiting…waiting..to kill.. Her?

He watches us fade into the darkness as my family gazed at one another. At home, Carlisle decides to research, books, legends, folks, but no information were found. Only the wolves knew. I can sense they were very protective for what she may become.

“Well?!” Rosalie shouted “Is she a danger towards us or not? Why not kill the damn dog ourselves?”

“We can’t interfere with the wolves plans. They seem more frighten of her then we are to them.” I said with frustration “They know what we don’t know.” As I sign ..I have to tell them.
“She wants to be cured..”

“Cured?” Everyone said with confusion

“Is there such a thing? To be cured? She’s a werewolf.” Emmett questioned

“She…doesn’t want to be a werewolf..she thinks..of herself as a monster..” I know how she feels…the rejection of your human self is gone, nothing brings destruction into this world, lonesome caries on. I came back into focus when Alice looked at me.
“They found her, alone in the woods a few months ago. Just as we seen earlier what she did…unable to form. The pack sees that as a dangerous sign”

“Why? She didn’t harm the human?” Jasper said

“In Jacob’s mind, I saw fear.. if she doesn’t accept who she is, something dark will erupt within her.” I replied

“But we can’t find any information of what a Kanima is? Either we look for the information ourselves or we find out from Jacob?” Emmett said with concern.

Suddenly we hear a knock on the door.

“A mutt..” Rosalie hissed as she sat on the couch

I opened the door knowing it was Seth. He walked in without any hesitation. He seemed really nervous yet I knew Jacob has sent him.

“Hey…um let me explain.” Seth said  

“Would you like a drink?” Esmee said with a soft voice.

“No, I’m alright.” Seth said “It’s about Kris.”

“Kris?” They all looked confused. I forgot to mention her name earlier.

“Yes, the wolf girl besides Leah.” Alice said. Well perhaps Alice knew.

“Ya. Well, Kris is really nice. She won’t hurt a fly.” Seth said as he stumbles with words.

“You want Kris to stay so she can accept who she is?” I said while finishing his sentence.

“Ya! And..” he said

“And there is no such thing as a cure.” I said questioning

“……no….she’s ..wants to be cure…and witnessing of how she refuses to form.. Billy wants her to stay …or else …she’ll… go… into a killing rampage” Seth looked down

“She isn’t supposed to know there is no such thing as a cure.” I said

 “The wolves accept who we are. We never had anyone refuse for what they are!.....but…she…..she did……something happened in her past that we aren’t fully aware of.

We’ve been trying our best to make her feel welcomed, feel that she is a pack, that she is one of us and accept the fact that she is part wolf.” Seth said with concern…”if she doesn’t…”

“Seth, what is a Kanima?” I replied worriedly

He looked down…unaware what to say next. “Please, tell us Seth. We have the right to know.”

From the distance, ignoring the wolf’s howl, I stared at Seth. Leah must be near.

“It’s a creature that doesn’t know or accept what he or she is..and is looking for a master. The master can control the beast ..but its unstoppable to kill. It’s faster than us wolves…and it becomes stronger when the moon is full”.  He said

Another howl from the distance, Seth turned around and looked back as he was about to head for the door. We all stood in silence, shocked….and frightening. “We’re doing our best. Please keep your distance from her or just help us.” His last words before he left.

“Oh, we’ll help alright. Let’s just kill the damn…” Rosalie said before we heard a growl in the woods.

Everyone stared at her, knowing that will cause a war.

“Fine..but don’t say I warned you” as she put her hands up leaving the conversation.

“I’ll keep an eye on her” I finally spoke

“We will too” Alice said while tagging along with Jasper as he nods.

“Then that settles… tomorrows the day” Carlisle has said
