Chapter 29: The Ocean

Edward’s POV

Another day without Kris.. I’m glad Alice is having fun. I can still see her through Alice thoughts… Weeks have passed and who would have thought? A wolf and a vampire would become best friends as I chuckled.

I do wonder what Alice is trying to do at times… perhaps she doesn’t like it when I’m unhappy… Reading her thoughts about Kris is more fascinating than reading my favorite books. Every chapter is a new beginning without being repeated.

However… reading Alice thoughts about Kris? Now that… is something to be reading twice a day.

I sign as I place my book over my head, laying down, thinking and wondering… When will Alice return? It’s nearly nightfall.

I then close my book instantly as I heard noises through the woods.

Jasper was by the door, before anyone knew, I read his mind. He then opened the door, fear in his eyes as everyone started to wonder.

“Where’s Alice?” Carlisle said but I already knew the answer

“She’s in La-Push… and the wolves are chasing after her…” I told everyone

“I wasn’t unsure whether to follow her, Carlisle? She told me not too”.

From a distance we heard wolves cried out… and then… I heard Kris’s…  For the first time, I felt like I have a heart…for the past 100 years…my heart ached in pain as the weight of my chest couldn’t bare. The thought of losing her is more than losing my own soulless life…

If it means putting my family in danger, then so be it… I can’t let her die …not like this….not for us…

I ran out of the house and into the woods, without any hesitation I jumped over the creek and landed on La-Push. The woods reeked of wolves’ blood as the smell swiftly lifted itself through the air.

Carlisle and my family were on the side, covering their noise. It’s reached so far that they became less worried. I couldn’t smell Alice’s death…

By the time I reached the smell… blood was everywhere… I looked up and read Alice thoughts instantly, she quickly climb down.

“Edward?” she hugged me “I had a vision you were coming for me. Even when Kris was here…” she looked frighten “I didn’t see this.. I didn’t think they were going to fight… and then I saw a vision you were coming for me..and ..and..”

I tried to comfort her. Night stood all around us, the wolves were hovering on the edge

“Alice? Go back… go back to Forks. Jasper’s waiting for you. Everyone is” As I nodded to her

She was about to leave but turned around “what about you? I can’t… leave you here with them?”

“Please, Alice.”

She stopped for a moment and left..

Jacob looked at me as he took off his shirt. He too was about to jump in for her.

“This isn’t the time, leach. Go back to Forks and blame yourself for this.” he pointed a finger at me… but I ignored his rude request and leaped over the wolves, not fallen but diving into the water. I swam towards Kris. I checked for any pulse …

“Don’t die on me… Kris… I love you.. I’m not going to lose you again..” she wasn’t turning back into a human, that scared me …with all my strength I kept pulling towards the shore but the waves kept pulling her into the deep ocean… I felt as if the ocean itself…or perhaps the moon… was testing my love for her…her wolf size and holding her head up to breath became difficult. Suddenly, half the wolves jumped in and helped me carried her to shore. We lay her down on the sand… I stroked her fur down …her heart began to slowly fade

“Kris… if you can hear me… I never left you…you have a family here...they care about you...just as I care about you…please come back… please…” I couldn’t bite her…I couldn’t do anything to help her… I broke that promise of protecting her… I hugged her so tightly as I was kneeling down
