Worried about my safety?
What did Raven expect me to take from that sentence of concern? Am I supposed to be frightened or let it effect my abilities to remain strong? I realize Raven was only trying to help, but she only made me more intrigued in the matter. I wonder if somehow someone was able to reach my mind when I was hit by the beam that paralyzed me; and what was Red X doing there? He said he had a boss, and that boss wanted me. Have I done anything out of the ordinary recently?
The sound of quiet whimpers snapped me out of my loud thoughts as I sat up in my bed. I immediately hurried to fill a glass of water and prepare a wet towel. Robins door opened and I was met with his usual sweaty appearance. He was shaking in fear and his body thrashed around in an attempt to free himself from whatever was tormenting his mind. I rushed to his side and tried to shake him from his nightmares. "Robin, wake up! It's me, Starfire." His eyes shot open and he flipped us over and placed his hands on my neck. My eyes were wide in shock and I felt like my body was frozen in fear. His eyes were now closed and I knew he was not aware that he was choking the life from my body.
"R-Robin!" The words were weak and shaky as I tried to breathe and black dots started to cloud my vision. I was about to let the darkness overtake me when his blue eyes snapped open to meet my wide frightened ones. He immediately let go of my neck and I felt as though I was coughing up, as they say, a storm. "Oh-oh God! Star! Oh my God I'm so sorry! Are you ok?" Tears leaked unwillingly from my eyes as I tried to catch my breath and Robin rubbed my back comfortingly. By the time I was breathing normally again, my throat was raw and my body was shaking. "Starfire, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to, I thought you were someone else."
"Robin, it's ok, I understand. You would never hurt me and I know that." His face seemed to relax as he let out a breath of relief. I was surprised when he pulled me in for a hug and I felt him shake with sadness. My shirt felt wet with tears and to say I was shocked would be an understatement. "I'm so sorry, I just can't shake these dreams! They're getting worse every time I have them and I don't know what to do." My fingers instinctively ran through his unruly hair and my other hand slid up and down his back to try and comfort him. "Robin, I will do whatever it takes to rid you of these mares of the night. Tomorrow we will ask our friend Raven for the help. I believe she may be able to cure you of this dilemma." He simply nodded before handing me the glass of water. I eagerly gulped the cold liquid and closed my eyes as it coated my rough throat. He took the glass from me once I finished and together, we laid back down in each other's comforting arms. It only took a few minutes before I fell asleep to Robins deep breaths.
A small creak woke me from my slumber and I looked over to see Robin still fast asleep. I was just about to go back to sleep when I heard another creak a few feet farther from the door. Normally I would think nothing of this small matter, but something told me I should go see what the lifeless noise was. Luckily I was able to slip easily from Robins grip and I hovered to the door before silently slipping through the opening. Another creak grasped my attention and I followed the direction of the noise to the living room. As I looked around, everything seemed to be normal and I was now starting to feel silly for assuming the worst. A breath of relief fell from my lips but it was quickly sucked back in when a pair of hands grabbed me by my throat. I let out a fearful scream as I writhed around in the strangers strong grip. My eyes became hot as I prepared to shoot but something was thrown in my eyes before I could do so and I let out another scream; only this time it was full of pain as my eyes closed themselves in an effort for protection. Whatever was thrown at me burned. It burned as if I had been looking at a thousand suns for hours and finally looked away in defeat. "H-help!" I gasped when something stabbed me in my thigh.
The grip around my throat tightened and I could tell my consciousness was on the brink of failing as my limbs started to tingle from lack of precious oxygen and blood quickly escaped my punctured veins. "No one can help you now princess Koriand'r." That voice, it's familiar but I can't place my finger on who it belongs to. I was just about to fall unconscious when the person dropped me to the ground with a yell of pain.
"Starfire!"
I know that voice as well.
Robin, my Robin.
My eyes were now able to open and I struggled to catch my breath as he picked me up in his arms. I whimpered and looked down at my leg where I saw blood dripping. So much blood. I became dizzy and my head lolled to the side weakly. "No, come on Star, stay with me." I could vaguely hear the grunts of my friends as they fought whoever tried to kill me but the noises seemed to be growing quieter and father away as the seconds ticked by. I looked up at Robin and his mouth moved, but I couldn't hear his comforting voice and I began to panic. My breathing got faster and I began to thrash in fear.
Starfire.
Raven! She's in my head.
Relax, Robin and I are going to take you to first aid and stitch you up, but we can't do that if you don't calm down.
I was only able to nod my head weakly as I closed my eyes and felt Robin run with me limp in his arms to our makeshift hospital room. The sounds were fading in and out and sometimes I could hear them but not a moment later would their voices be absent again. I felt my body being laid on a bed and I could feel Robins hand as he intertwined it with mine. I'm so tired. I haven't had proper sleep in days, maybe I should just- "Ahhh!"
A sharp pain snapped my eyes open and I looked down to see that Raven had tied a belt above my wound and she was digging her fingers beneath my flesh. "Raven stop! You're hurting her!" Robin.
"Oh gosh dudes, I can't watch, I'm gonna be sick!" Beastboy.
"Whoever stabbed her placed a tracking device in the wound, I need to get it out before I stitch it."
I writhed in pain and tried to kick at my friend who continued to hurt me. "Robin, Cyborg, I need you to hold her down, I can't get this thing out if she's moving so much!"
I looked around to see my love holding my left arm down, as well as my left leg while Cyborg held my right arm down. They struggled beneath my force and I had nearly broken free when a loud scream of my own shocked me. The pain was unbearable as I looked up to see Raven holding a small chip between her bloody fingers. Oh my glorfnick. I felt my consciousness fading once again and my limbs went limp as I used my last bit of strength to turn towards Robin. His eyes were on my leg and they squinted in concentration. "She's losing too much blood! Help me put pressure on the wound while I gather the supplies!" I only stayed conscious long enough to feel the unbearable pressure placed on my wound before I fell beneath the all-too familiar shroud of darkness that I was only supposed to enter when I slept.ANONYMOUS
The young man stood before his father and awaited his words of approval for accomplishing his mission. Unfortunately, this was not what the nervous man received.
"You idiot! You were messy!"
"B-but dad, I implanted the tracking device just as you instructed!"
A harsh slap sent the strong man hurling through the air and onto the concrete floor beneath him.
"No you didn't! What made you think that by slicing her thigh and simply placing the tracker in would work? As soon as they took her in for stitches it was immediately identified! Have I not taught you anything?"
The man let his hands cover his eyes in embarrassment.
"I'm sorry, I made a mistake! It won't happen next time, I promise!"
The man looked to the villain with pleading eyes and a pathetic look of failure planted upon his young face.
"You're right, it won't happen again, because if you do, I will easily dispose of you and bring your brother in to take your place."
"Yes sir."
