The following week passed by slowly and I was forced to rest in bed in order to heal properly. As much as I hated being inactive and feeling helpless, my friends were right when they said it would help me heal faster. The wound in my leg was now only a large scab and although it is going to scar, it is healing quite fast.
My eyes opened to a small ray of sunlight that was flooding through my windows and I realized that it had finally been a week. I couldn't help the small squeal that left my lips as I jumped up and smiled. I sped outside and didn't bother to see if anyone else was awake, I was simply too overjoyed to waste time now. A sigh of relief left my lips as I flew freely through the air. My hair blew behind me and the sunlight warmed my skin, making me feel anew. Birds flew around and paid no attention to me as they relished in their own freedom. Since I'm up so early, maybe I should go get my friends the donuts. With that thought in mind, I started to fly towards the city in hopes of bringing my friends a small sign of my appreciation. They will surely appreciate my small notion of gratitude for all that they have done for me the past week. Raven helped me get rid of the majority of pain while Cyborg and Beastboy entertained me with their various jokes and fights over random issues. Robin was, of course, by my side everyday making sure I had what I needed and I was comfortable. He never complained once. I made it to a local donut shop and made my way inside. My nose sniffed the glorious air and I looked at all of the different kinds of pastries. "Next!"
I walked up to the woman at the register and gave her a smile before placing my order. "Um may I have two dozen donuts please?" I then clarified my order by telling her each type of donut I wanted. I hope they like these flavors. As I was walking out I wasn't paying attention and ran into a hard body. I stumbled back and looked down to see a friend. "Oh Sullivan, how great it is to see you!" He laughed and pulled me in for a hug. "I never got to thank you Starfire. You saved my life." My cheeks went red in embarrassment. "Oh it was no problem."
"So why haven't you texted me?"
Oh. Right.
"Oh I'm so sorry Sullivan! I forgot, I had a pretty crazy last week."
He nodded in understanding.
"Well why don't we take a seat and you can tell me everything that happened this last week."
"Oh I'm sorry friend, I have to bring the donuts back home but I will text you and maybe we may get together later?"
He simply nodded and took one of my hands into his and kissed the top. "I look forward to your text."
And then he turned around and left, just like that. I seemed to be frozen in place and I wasn't sure why. I guess I was more shocked than anything. Sullivan will never be more than a friend to me and I desperately hope he is not getting the wrong idea because it would be so painful to hurt him. Without thinking about it any further, I decided to fly home as fast as I could. As I got closer and closer to the tower, I noticed the wind picking up and the sky had started to darken. My nose smelled the familiar scent of rain and my skin felt the dense, wet air that came along with it. It was days like this that I loved. When weather like this comes along, so does what they call, the lazy day. For some reason, no one seems to want to do anything on these days but relax and have fun inside. I managed to make it back right before it started pouring and made my way up to the commons room with my large box of donuts. A large smile was spread across my face as I waited to surprise my friends. The doors opened and I was shocked to see that the room was empty. They must all still be asleep. When I looked at the clock I realized that it was only eight in the morning. I guess since I woke up so early, I didn't realize that time hadn't really passed that much since earlier. I set the box of donuts on the counter and decided that maybe I should try and get a little more sleep before I am no longer able to. The silence in the tower was peaceful, as it went well with the sound of millions of tiny droplets of the rain falling to the earth. We never had such storms on Tameran. The only storms we had were meteor showers, but those only occurred once a year so it was not too big of a hassle. I was passing Robins door when I heard papers shuffling and a faint mumbling.
"Come on... where did you go?"
He must be researching someone, I only hope that he is not getting obsessed with his investigation. No one wants a repeat of the Slade situation that occurred only a year ago. I lightly let my fingers knock on his door and I heard the papers shuffle once again before I heard his footsteps coming towards the door. Soon after, it opened to reveal a restless Robin without a mask and in his pajamas. He seemed shocked to see me and a faint blush fell upon his cheeks. "Oh hey Star, what has you up so early?"
He scratched the back of his head nervously.
"Um, well I wanted to surprise everyone with two dozen delicious donuts. I realize that it's not very healthy but I felt that after everything everyone has done for me this week, they deserved something to show my appreciation." He just shot me a smile before grabbing my small hand in his slightly larger one. "So, your leg is completely better?" I only nodded my head and gave a small smile of confirmation before he pulled me into his room. The door closed behind us and Robin led me to his bed where we sat side by side. He set his hand on my thigh and stared at the large remnant of my recent wound. "I'm so sorry I let this happen to you. I should have been there faster. I should have protected you."
I was in utter shock at his confession. Does he feel that this is his fault?
"Robin, you could not have done anything. The only thing that you could have done was be there for me after, and you were. You didn't have to save me, but you did because we love each other and we're all a family. I refuse to let you talk this way because you cannot always protect me and I cannot always protect you. Sometimes we get hurt, but that's normal because we are heroes and it is ok. We always manage to make it through. Besides, I'm pretty tough."
He let out a small chuckle and looked back up to my eyes. "Oh trust me, I know how tough you are, beautiful"
Beautiful.
Words like that never existed on my planet, and since I was a princess, I had my life planned for me before I was born so no matter what man I ended up with, it would never be consensual. Besides, I wasn't able to make it far enough to marry before being taken prisoner by the Citadel. Those were the worst years of my life, but they also brought me to earth, where I met Robin, and my other friends. I wouldn't change a thing.
"What were you working on at your desk?" He looked to where my eyes were scanning and took in what I was seeing. Papers upon papers were scattered all over the desk with a small lamp illuminating them.
"Oh, nothing. I was just bored and couldn't sleep."
I knew he was lying but I did not feel like pushing the matter anymore at the moment. "How about we get some more sleep while we can, it's not everyday that we get a lazy day like this."
He was right and I was all for his idea of resting. Even though I had been in bed for the last week, I was constantly restless and didn't sleep as well as I should. I usually only slept when Raven gave me some pain medication. "Ok."
He pulled down his covers and directed me to lay down. I laid down on my right side and watched Robin as he took his shirt off. His chest was exposed to me and my eyes took pleasure in the sight. My eyes met his and I immediately felt at peace. Something about seeing those beautiful blue irises always makes me feel special. Maybe it's because I'm the only one who has seen him without his false identity. He laid down in front of me and we faced each other in comfort. I let my fingers trace his chest and I decided to rest my head against his heart. I could faintly hear the beat of his heart and I also heard how it increased in speed when I would run my fingers through his hair. He set his chin on the top of my head and I heard him sigh in happiness before he gave me a kiss on my forehead. I closed my eyes and smiled.
"Goodnight Star, I love you."
"Goodnight Robin, I love you as well."
Before long, his breathing became deep and slow, indicating that he was fast asleep. I fell asleep in comfort with his arms protectively wrapped around my body.
A large crash awoke Robin and I and I quickly made my way to the commons room while Robin put his mask back on. When I made it to the others, I was frustrated to see that nothing bad had happened, Beastboy had just accidentally knocked down one of our lamps when he got angry over the video game.
Raven emerged from the hallway with an angry glare. "What the hell? You gave me a heart attack!"
I giggled at her anger towards the boys and how they immediately shrunk in fear. "Sorry Rae, it was an accident."
She just sighed at Beastboy before leaving to go to her room.
"Friends, did you find the donuts?"
Beastboy's eyes shot toward my own and I knew the answer before he spoke.
"Of course we did Star, thanks by the way."
I just gave a small smile before Cyborg spoke up.
"Yeah, but what were they for?"
"Oh, well I just wanted to show my appreciation for your help this last week. I could not have done it without you all."
Beastboy turned into a dog and ran over to me. His canine body pushed mine to the floor and I laughed as he licked me. Robin stood to the side with a small smirk.
"Alright, alright Beasty, I would get off now, you're making Robin jealous."
I giggled at Cyborgs remark.
"What? N-no I'm not!"
Robins defense was no use as his cheeks turned red and his voice wavered. "Sure buddy."
Beastboy got off of me and returned to his normal form before helping me stand.
"I am going to bring Raven a donut."
They all went on to their normal activities as I grabbed a strawberry donut and headed towards Raven's room. I knocked on her door and gasped when she immediately answered it.
"Oh, I brought you the donut. It's strawberry, I hope you like it."
Another gasp left my lips when she grabbed my hand and pulled me into her room before shutting the door behind us.
"Thanks Starfire." She grabbed the donut and set it on her bedside table.
"What is-"
She cut me off before I could finish.
"I need your advice Star, something has been on my mind lately and you're the only girl friend I have."
My eyes went wide when she said girl friend.
She seemed to notice my confusion and gave a small laugh. "Not like you and Robin, it's just another statement for best friends of the same gender in our case." I let out a sigh of relief before grabbing her hand and leading her to sit on her bed.
"Ok Raven, as your only girlfriend, I am ready to answer any questions you may have."
A small smirk emerged before quickly disappearing from her face.
"Well, what if you like someone but don't know how to approach it because you two are just really good friends and you don't want to ruin the relationship?" She took a large breath after her long sentence and I couldn't help but giggle at our similarity. "Oh Ravin, what you just described is exactly how Robin and I used to be. That day in Tokyo when you all saw us make lip contact was the first time we had ever done so. I truly wish I would have had the courage to do it sooner, but I couldn't be happier at what has become of us now."
She was staring at me wide-eyed, almost as if she was trying to read my mind and body all at once. "I think that you should go talk to Beastboy." Her eyes went wide and her mouth fell agape. "How-" I cut her off with a giggle. "I also happen to be able to read people well and I can see the way you act around him."
We just sat in silence for a few seconds before she shocked me and pulled me into a hug. Immediately my arms wrapped around her small torso and I couldn't help the large smile from taking over my face.
"Thank you Starfire."
"No problem Raven."
