Cloud Strife x Reader: A Favour

A/N: Have a FFVII One Shot! Sorry it took so long! Another ancient request down, and I hope you all enjoy it. Also, forgive me, I haven't watched Advent Children in a while.

This isn't a love story so much as a first meeting, and you do most of the talking. This is also very short. Sorry.

(Y/N) = Your Name

Disclaimer: I own nothing from the Final Fantasy Universe.

The sun was setting, darkness falling over the city of Midgar and its surrounding areas. The streets were beginning to empty, save for the common drunkards, thieves, and guards.

As you began to reach the outskirts of the main city you couldn't help but notice how destroyed the area was. Rubble and junk littered everywhere, blocking pathways and adding obstacles to your aimless meander. It was a shame that such a beautiful place could be so destroyed...yet still, even the chaos had its own beauty, didn't it?

The moon had fully risen by the time you laid eyes on the church. It was a little haggard, and mildly overgrown, yet still just as lovely as the first time you saw it. And much like the first time, it seemed like a wonderful place to take cover for the night.

Casually you stroll through the doors of the place, expecting to quickly curl up and fall asleep on one of the pews, or perhaps in the bed of flowers that were so dear to the place. What you weren't expecting to do was to stumble upon someone else camped out there.

"Oh, hello," you smiled lightly, slowing down your pace to approach the man. "Hope I'm not intruding."

"Who are you?" he quickly stood up and questioned coldly.

"(Y/N)," you perched on one of the farthest pews, close enough to bolt in this guy turned out to be unfriendly. "And you?"

"Cloud Strife," he replied, taking a step forward. "Who sent you?"

"My fatigue, I was looking for a place to crash," you tilted your head, curious by this blond haired man and why you had heard that name before. "How do you get your hair like that?"

"My-" he paused, his surprise quickly vanishing. "Whatever. I'll ask again. Who sent you here?"

"I'll say again, no one. Seriously. Though I am intrigued that you consider yourself important enough to have me sent after you. What exactly have you done?"

Cloud was silent, turning away and sitting on some sort of metal box, not meeting your eye.

You took this chance to observe him. Aside from the eye-catching, physics-defying hair that this man was sporting, he was fairly attractive. Well build without being too buff, clad in black clothing, a thin and angular face, and...mako blue eyes.

"Cloud Strife," it dawned on you, and he glanced up. "The SOLDIER that wasn't. Shinra wasn't too happy with you for a while there, huh?"

He stood again, reaching for the sword on his back. "How do you know that?"

"Relax, pretty boy," you sighed, stretching to lay your feet on the pew in front of you. "I travel. People talk. Drunk people talk more. Usually isn't hard to piece together someone's story."

He relaxed slightly, though didn't sit back down. "'Important enough to have me sent after you', that's what you said. Who are you with?"

"The highest bidder. I'm an assassin for hire. What do you do, fight evil?"

He hesitated, slowly sitting down closer to you. "Delivery service."

You snorted. This strong, gorgeous hunk of meat...a delivery boy? "Nice try, pretty boy. Give me something believable."

"I'm serious. My fighting evil days are over."

"And why is that?"

He looked down, a mixture of sorrow, disgust, and acceptance crossing over his face. "I lost someone."

"Okay?" You were unsure of the relevance of this. "My sympathies, I guess."

"If I couldn't protect her, or myself, how can I protect anyone else?" he looked up, blue eyes meeting yours steadily.

"So you're afraid," you realized. "That makes sense. But you certainly can't protect yourself, or anyone else, if you don't try. You can't let one mistake hold you back."

"But-"

"But I have no right to say, being a stranger and all. You're right," you stood, smiling lightly at the broken man. "I can tell you need space, I'll leave you alone."

"Wait," he stood up for the third time, this time looking a little lost. "Will I...ah..."

"See me again? Probably not. But who knows...maybe I'll get ordered to kill you."

"You could always...stay the night like you planned? I'm not kicking you out."

"Nah, I'm not tired anymore. Besides, I can tell I'm not welcome in your girlfriend's old place."

His eyes widened. "How did you-"

"I told you, people talk," you turned around. "And do me a favour? Go back to Tifa. She told me her and the kids miss you. That mean anything to you?"

Silence.

A faint chuckle left your lips. "Have a good night, Cloud Strife."

"See you around, (Y/N)."
