Peter Petrelli x Reader: Rainy Days
Ok so I recently started watching Heroes and have a pretty unhealthy obsession with 3 of the guys, Peter being one of them. So...enjoy :p
(Y/N)= Your Name.
Sorry if characters seem OOC.
Disclaimer: I do not own Heroes or any of its characters. Sadly.
You quickly started to close up your black umbrella, shaking the water off of it the best you could while trying to rush into the bookstore. You couldn't help but chuckle as you watched the frantic people of the city ducking into stores and buildings to avoid the buckets of rain that chose to start falling that afternoon.
You ducked into the store, flicking your now drenched hair out of your face and scanning some rows of the books. You weren't looking for anything in particular, but you knew you wanted something a little...different from your usual "fantasy" preference.
Slowly walking around you scanned some book titles, waiting for one of them to stand out or speak to you.
A man walking up to the row of books you were currently browsing caught your attention, with long dark coloured bangs hanging drenched in his face and his clothes soaked. His eyes were wide and shining, almost like a puppy.
"Lovely day," you chuckled dryly, eyes floating back to his hair before back to scanning the books.
"Tell me about it," he flicked some of the hair out of his eyes, and you felt them scanning yourself briefly.
"You looking for something in particular?"
"I wasn't at first, I just came in to escape the rain..." he breathed out a bit, "but now that I'm here I might look for a book...it's by someone with the last name Suresh...I don't know if you've seen-"
"Activating Evolution by Chandra Suresh," You pulled out said book, glancing at the cover before passing it to him. "I'm hoping this is it?"
"Yeah, it is! Thank you," he shot you a crooked grin before turning his eyes to novel, reading the back.
"Evolution huh?" you breathed quietly, picking up a second copy that was next to the first. "Well I did want to read something different."
"Hey, uh..." he trailed off, waiting for a name.
"Call me (Y/N)."
"I'm Peter," he smiled. "Anyway, can I ask you something?"
"Uh...sure?" you replied hesitantly, eyes scanning to books again.
"Do you ever feel like...like you were meant to do something extraordinary?"
You paused for a moment and breathed in. Where was this going? "What exactly are we talking about here?"
"I'm talking about who you are. I'm talking about...being special."
Being special...he has no idea.
See, growing up you had always thought you were normal. You wanted to be normal. But years ago you learned that...there was something about you that wasn't. It happened one night when you were having a nightmare. You woke up to find your parents yelling, and fire burning hot and bright around you in your room.
You later learned you had an ability called pyrokinesis, and that you weren't the only one in the world with these abilities. You had only met one guy, a guy who could fly, but you knew there were more out there.
"Everyone is special in their own way Peter," you said bluntly. Though when you noticed his face fall you sighed and faced him fully, not breaking eye contact. "Some....however...can be more special than others. Some people are...just different enough. And I believe that fate has set them on a slightly different path than the rest of the norm. It's natural selection...destiny...whatever you wish to call it."
He was silent for a few moments, pondering what you said.
You turned to the store's windows, observing the relentless rain and the dark clouds, coming to a conclusion.
"I don't think the rain's gonna let up anytime soon."
He seemed to deflate at that comment. "I have to get to work."
You contemplated the situation. You had an umbrella, and he didn't. You had nothing to do, and he did...hmm.
"I'd lend you my umbrella, but I do need it..." you sighed before shooting him a smile. "I could walk you there and we could share...? No sense in you getting a taxi if it's a short distance."
"Seriously?" he grinned happily, before mocking suspicion. "Wait, first you finding my book, now this? What's the catch?"
You shrugged. "No catch. But you'd better keep me entertained on the walk there, Mr. Peter."
He laughed. "I'll do my best, Ms. (Y/N)."
You two went to pay for your books (after a loud argument when he insisted on paying for yours), and eventually made it back outside into the pouring rain.
"So, what do you do?" You asked the guy.
"Umm, I'm a hospice nurse," he shrugged bashfully.
"Really?" you smiled. "That's awesome!"
He just shrugged again.
You sighed slightly. "So that's where the being special thing comes from huh? You want to do more than help one life at a time?"
"U-uh, yeah, actually," he nodded, hair flopping slightly. "I just...it may sound weird but I feel like...I may have... the ability to help more people."
You couldn't help but feel suspicious at this point. The book on evolution....talk of being "special"... now "abilities"? He couldn't be...
"Anyway, this is me," he chuckled awkwardly as we paused outside of a building. "Umm, thank you so much for this."
"It was no problem," you smiled warmly. "Uh...here," you pulled out a business card you had in your purse, handing it to him. "It has my cell number on it, if you ever wanna... I don't know... meet for coffee or something. Discuss these abilities of yours."
Peter laughed and smiled. "I'd like that. See you around."
"Yeah, see you," you smiled and turned, walking away as he entered the building.
Well...this should be interesting. Now to go home and crack open that book on evolution...maybe you could learn more on your ability in the process. And learn if Peter is hiding an ability of his own.
