Edward Elric x Reader: Puppy Love
A/N: I'm going to apologize right now if I'm making him OOC. I haven't watched Fullmetal Alchemist in ages, so I'm kind of leaving his character relatively open. Sorry.
THIS IS ALSO REALLY SHORT, AND I APOLOGIZE. I DON'T KNOW WHY THESE ARE GETTING SHORTER AND SHORTER. I'LL TRY TO MAKE THE NEXT ONE LONGER.
(Y/N) = Your Name, (D/N) = Dog's Name

You weren't expecting much to happen that day, and certainly not at that point of it. It was a warm day out, a soft breeze carrying the aroma of flowers and rustling the leaves of the trees. You were out walking your dog, the cutie tugging on the leash excitedly as you took the familiar route to the dog park near your house.
You had to admit you weren't paying attention, instead focusing on a large bird of prey that had been flying ahead, nearly dancing in the clouds. When you came back to earth you realized that your dog was straining against the leash, trying to jump up onto...a large suit of armour?
"Oh, hello there!!" a metallic yet childish voice came from the armour excitedly. You gaped for a moment before recollecting your thoughts.
"No! No jump! Bad dog!" You scolded, tugging the leash back a bit.
The voice chuckled. "No, it's really okay. I love animals!"
You gave a weak smile, brushing your hair behind your ear. You weren't entirely sure how to address the armour, but you figured you'd start in a common place. "Umm, so what's your name then?"
"I'm Alphonse! Al for short-"
"Al!" A sharper voice called, and a relatively short man ran up to the pair of you. "What are you doing?! We need a place to stay, not a dog!"
When the armour-sorry, Alphonse began to stutter, you decided to step in with a soft laugh.
"I mean, dogs are pretty great. You can't blame him for getting distracted by (D/N)."
The shorter man's gaze turned to you for the first time, and you noted his long blond hair and red cloak.
"I'm sorry, I didn't see you there...?"
"(Y/N)," you smiled politely.
He grinned at you. "Edward Elric."
You nodded. "It's a pleasure. Are you two...friends? Partners?"
"Brothers," Edward replied, glancing down at the dog that was now sniffing at his hand.
"Jeez, I'm sorry about that. (D/N) isn't usually so lovey dovey to strangers." You tried tugging the leash gently again, to no avail.
"No, it's alright!" he chuckled, and you noted that his voice was fairly pleasing. "The curious thing probably smells this," he held up his arm, shaking away the fabric of the cloak to reveal...an Automail arm? Interesting...
"I'm sure there's a hell of a story behind that," you chuckled weakly, smiling down at your dog now returning to Alphonse, who giggled happily in response.
"You have no idea," he shook his head sheepishly.
A silence fell over the group, aside from Alphonse's giggles and the dog's pants, and you hesitated.
"You...mentioned needing a place to stay, boys?"
The pair looked up at you sharply.
"Yeah! Do you know a place nearby?" Alphonse questioned excitedly.
"How long are you looking to stay?" you answered with a question.
"Just a night before we go on our way again," Edward explained.
You hesitated again, attempting to get a good look into that boy's vibrant eyes. You were usually good at getting a grasp on a person's character; however you didn't want to be wrong.
"Assuming that that's all..." you took in a breath before shooting them both a smile. "You two are more than welcome to stay at mine for a night."
"Really?!" Al questioned happily.
Edward was more wary. "At what cost?"
You waved a hand in dismissal before shooting Al a grin. "Well, I'd appreciate someone to look after the dog for a night. Food, another walk before bed, and so on."
The excited laugh from the armour and the grateful smile on the man were the answer to your offer.
All things considered it was a fairly quiet evening. You got the boys fed and settled into the spare room, all while speaking more and more to the blond man while the suit of armour played with your dog.
You learned quite a few things, the main one being that he was a State Alchemist. You learned of some of his past, though neither of you brought up the metal arm again. In return he learned things about you, the town you grew up in, the people you were friends with, the ambitions you had...
It was only your first meeting and the two of you had begun to fall for each other.
And it was with that in mind that you quietly crept around the house as the boys slept, preparing a small basket of food and drinks for them to take with them on the rest of their journey to who-knows-where. You threw in some money as well, as you had noticed that the boys weren't too well off.
You left the basket on the counter, tucking a note beside it, mentioning how very much in love your dog was to Al, and to invite the boys back anytime they wished.
The next morning when you awoke, the house was silent. And while you weren't originally expecting them to stay much longer past sunrise, you had hoped they would at least say goodbye.
With a sigh you rolled out of bed, fixing your hair and dressing for the day ahead, preparing to take (D/N) for the first walk of the day.
But when you got downstairs to the kitchen, something was out of place.
The basket was obviously gone, thank goodness. You were worried they wouldn't accept. But in its place, made out of what you guessed to be part of a stick or a log outside, was a small, intricate wooden carving of a rose. Next to it was a note, this one in a messier scrawl than your own.
And as you read the thankful and kind words of the Fullmetal Alchemist you grinned. He would be coming back, he promised, and that was more than enough for you.
