Josh Washington x Reader: We're Us
A/N: I promised this one a long time ago. Sorry people. Been in a bit of a writing funk. To anyone waiting on a one shot, a NYSM 2 story, a Warcraft story, or a possibility of an original: There's gonna be quite a delay on some work. Apologies.
Also, this story is working under a sort of AU in which Josh escapes with the rest of them; The poor boy didn't deserve to meet the fate that he did.
This one ended kind of shittily, so sorry for that.

It was no secret that you were in love with Josh Washington.
You were friends back in high school, meeting him after befriending Chris in one of your classes. You were there for him when his sisters died, the only one willing to run to his house at 2 a.m. when he was having a break down. You were the one to pull him out of those dreaded mines during the Wendigo incident, doubling back after Mike left him there. And finally, you were the one to get him the help that he needed afterwards, getting him proper treatments for his schizophrenia.
Life had been rough after the Wendigo incident. Everyone had lived, thank god, but it was only Sam and Chris who had bothered to stay in touch with you and Josh afterwards. The others likely wouldn't have ignored you if you had chosen to side with them instead of Josh, but you and the Washington were inseparable, regardless of the events that had transpired.
You and Josh ended up moving in together shortly afterwards. It was a decision made by the four of you; Sam and Chris were both moving quite a ways away for schooling, but you were staying closer to where Josh had wanted. So a small apartment was what the pair of you now calls home.
While you had decided to start classes immediately, Josh ended up taking some time off to deal with his life; finally confronting his past with his sisters, getting the medical help he required, and finally getting his life straight. It had taken years, with a lot of rough patches and do-overs, but you were there every step of the way. Now he was in college, and you were just starting a new job.
Life seemed almost normal.
Sure, there were still nightmares of the hellish adventures the pair of you had gone through, and sure, neither of you were perfect, each with your own demons and flaws. But the pair of you were working things out, living your lives, and things were almost as good as they could get.
Notice how you say, almost.
See, you and Josh were close. Super close. Lover-like close.
But with all the excitement, all of the struggles, it was almost a given that the pair of you would end up that way. Between sleeping together to rid each other of nightmares, to inevitably running into each other naked due to the whole roommate situation, to already knowing everything about each other because you were best friends, it made sense that every person that had met the pair of you assumed you were together.
But the topic never really came up.
The pair of you had cuddled, but never kissed. The pair of you had talked, and talked, and talked, but the words you so desperately wanted to hear were never said. No labels were given, no boundaries were defined, and it confused the hell out of you.
