Daniel Atlas x Reader: Don't Leave

A/N: I saw NYSM2. It was fantastic, I loved it, I can't wait to continue You Don't See Me. Hopefully this will tie myself and others over. It also helps that Atlas was requested a while ago :)

Lots of dialogue. Sorry about that.

This one isn't edited, so apologies if it's bad or there are any mistakes.

(Y/N) = Your Name.

Disclaimer: I do not own anything relating to Now You See Me. I wish I did. But I don't. It's a rough life.

You were sitting on the couch in the living room of your apartment, reading an eBook you had downloaded on your phone. It was a nice place, not too lavish, not too run down, just perfect. It also had the added benefit of being off the grid, something that was necessary for you and your boyfriend.

See, you currently had the honor of being in a relationship with J. Daniel Atlas, a well known illusionist and a part of the Four Horsemen. Not only that, but you were a part of the group as well.

While you knew some magic, you had always felt more comfortable with the behind the scenes work. You were such a good ghost that if you hadn't revealed yourself to the audience at the last show, the world would have no clue that you even knew who the Four Horsemen were.

But you did, so now you were in hiding along with the others. Only Dylan and Jack were able to wander freely, but even they had to be careful. Jack still had to appear dead, and Dylan had to maintain his connection with the FBI.

Aside from that stress though, it was a quiet lull in activity. It was quite different from that year of living dangerously, far nicer that robbing money from a bank or hacking into a major corporation leader's bank account. You were loving this break, enjoying every second of the peace that you could get.

Unfortunately, your boyfriend was getting antsy.

"Daniel, if you keep pacing..." you trailed off lightly, looking up from your reading.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," he said quickly, holding up his hands in surrender yet still not stopping in his movements. "I just don't understand. We've just been sitting here, always waiting, trying to "work together as one organism" or some shit...I can't do this anymore."

You let out a breath, observing the agitated man before you. You sat up from your place on the couch, opening up a space beside you and crossing your legs.

"Sit down."

Daniel looked at you, eyes large and slightly frantic which was incredibly different from his usual calm/cool/collected mode. In the back of your mind you couldn't help but feel proud that he opened up to you like this, but you were more so worried than anything.

He strode over to the empty space and sat down. When you moved your arms to pat your lap he seemed to take the hint, lying down with his head in your lap as you straightened up a bit more. As you began to run your fingers through his much shorter hair (something you had argued against but lost), you spoke up.

"Something else is bothering you," you kept your voice quiet. "I've heard this 'we need to act' spiel far more than this, and you've never been so worked up. What's going on?"

He let out a few breaths, seemingly searching for the right words to say. Your hands hadn't ceased in their gentle scalp massage, and for a moment you were worried he would fall asleep.

"Henley left," he said softly, his eyes met yours. "She couldn't handle what was happening and she left. What's stopping you from leaving too?"

A small crossed your face. "Is that all?"

His tone became indignant. "What do you mean "is that all"?"

You just chuckled, leaning over to press a soft kiss against his lips. "It's going to take a lot more than this to leave."

"But what if-"

You kissed him again, longer this time, noting that you had to get him to shave soon. When you broke it off he groaned a little in disappointment.

"No more what ifs," you started, holding eye contact with your magician. "Look at what we have right now. A nice, quiet place off the grid with great internet and no annoying neighbours. We have Jack and Merritt and Dylan and Henley when she decides to keep in touch. We have the ability to do amazing things for people who have been wronged. Yes, maybe it's taking a long time for our next act, but good things come to those who wait, right?"

Daniel's eyes had calmed, and he had some of his trademark smirk on his face.

"I guess you're right," he closed his eyes again, and you resumed playing with his hair.

"I know I'm right," you poked his nose quickly, grinning as he scrunched it up.

"You know you did forget to mention something," Daniel spoke out after a few moments of silence.

"Oh yeah?" you questioned lightly, unlocking your phone with one hand to begin reading again.

"Yeah. You seemed to forget about a certain perfect, stunningly handsome, incredibly talented magician that you have as a boyfriend."

You snorted. "Well, I don't know about perfect, but those last two are true."

"Shut up, I'm perfect."

"You may be a talented magician, but you're hardly the best."

"Hey, I'm fucking incredible. You clearly don't know anything."

"I know your good with card tricks. That's good; it means you're good with your hands."

Daniel let out a loud snort at the implications of your words as you grinned.

When his laughter died down, he smiled up at you.

"God, I love you."

Silence fell over the pair of you.

That was the first time those words were said.

His eyes widened slightly, and a stutter that you hadn't heard in a while came over him.

"I-I'm sorry if that w-was too soon, I just-"

You leaned over, placing one more kiss on his lips.

"I love you too, dumbass."

You felt him smile against you, and you laughed. "Good luck getting rid of me now."

He sighed dramatically. "I'm stuck with you forever now, huh?"

You hit him gently. "Shut up you dork. I'm the best fucking thing that's happened to you."

"Well..."

As the pair of you continued your banter, you couldn't help but let your heart soar.

You were on the run, with your magician, and you loved him.

Yeah, you weren't leaving anytime soon.
