Genna was troubled by the fact that Lucy was not present the next morning. “Lucy! Where are you?”
Lucy ran into the clearing, “It’s o.k. Genna. I’m right here.”
“Oh,” Genna exhaled. Lucy came back with strawberries and blueberries.
Everyone was up by now either moaning or packing up his or her things. Charlie started a decent fire, while Chelsea struggled to fill a glass with water. Each time it was more plentiful then it would vanish unable to stay in the glass. Seth said he could make it rain, but no one wanted to see his cry, and Sage was trying to help Calvin fit all his things back in his backpack.
Genna concentrated really hard on the thought of calm flowing water. The sounds of a stream, and the buzzing of bugs engulfed her. She could see it now and knew where to go.
“Guys, I know where a water source is.” Genna told them.
“Where?” Sage asked, “I searched everywhere and I didn’t see anything.”
“It’s about a mile north from here so it’s not off track from our first route.” Genna explained.
“How do you know?” Sage asked.
“I can hear it,” Genna answered. “I know exactly where it is.”
“How can you hear it if it’s a mile away?” Chelsea asked. “Is it like I am with the ocean. I know exactly where they are and how to reach them from here.”
“Yes, precisely. Will you all just follow me.” she pleaded.
“I will, I believe you.” Chelsea got up and walked over to her. Chelsea, Charlie, Lucy, and Seth went further into the woods with her.
“Wait up.” Sage ran after them. Genna looked at her in shock, “I kind of want to prove you wrong.”
Genna smiled, “Sorry, but you won’t be able to…look.” Genna pointed straight ahead. Barely in sight was a small brook with a flowing stream branching off of it. Chelsea and Seth were so excited they ran and jumped in not worrying about their clothes. Lucy and Charlie held hands as they walked to the brook. Sage looked behind and saw Cal limping over their way from exhaustion.
When they all reached the pond beside Cal Genna decided to take her first layer of clothes off so she was in a tank top and shorts. Without having to test the water she could tell that it was cool. She cautiously got in, and felt the surge of energy go through her. Lucy was strolling along the edge when Charlie pushed her in.
She cried out, “Charlie!” but then she was quiet, “Charlie, can you help me out please.” she held her hand up for him. He reached and started to pull her out, then she tugged and dragged him into the clean water as well. They laughed and giggled splashing each other with water. The sensation of jealousy waved over Genna. Although she had only known Charlie for a few days she wanted him to be hers.
Genna experimented with the water, it playing around her fingertips. When she realized she could moved it and shape it she compacted the water into a little ball similar to a snowball although with water. Devoid of using her hands she threw it at Chelsea, the only person who could return it. Stunned, she sending a bigger one to Genna. Sage was so confused that she didn’t even realize that Calvin had finally made it into the forest and presumed a spot standing next to her.
“She’s not the daughter of Athena,” Calvin surveyed Genna.
“I really don’t understand. Just another god we can add to the list,” Sage sighed.
“What list?”
“I am making a list in my mind of all the gods who could be her parent. Right now there is Aphrodite, Athena and now Poseidon. I just wish she could remember her past.”
Chelsea got out of the pool as dry as before Lucy, Charlie, and Seth were freezing from the water and the breeze.
“Genna? You’re dry!” Charlie looked dazed.
“Excuse me?”
“You’re not wet!”
Genna looked at her clothes. She knew what this meant, “How do I know for sure who my parent is. I mean, if Athena isn’t my mom then how do I know for sure?”
“My dad came to me when I was at school. He told me himself that I was his daughter. Maybe your parent will come to you.” Lucy spoke genuinely.
“Or your mom or dad could send you a dream message. You’ve had a one before so you know how they feel,” Sage thought.
“Well, I feel clean, and I’m no longer thirsty, but I’m hungry and tired. Let’s go to the safe house.” Seth whined.
“O.k. Seth I think it’s about three miles from here.” Sage headed north. Calvin strolled slowly behind them combing his hair with wet hands.
As they walked Genna was determined to find out more about the mystery that was Seth. All she knew was that he was an eight-year-old outstandingly powerful demigod, who could create storms depending on his mood.
“Seth who did you meets first in this group?” Genna started the conversation.
“Lucy,” he said. That was a surprising answer to Genna.
“What happened?”
“My mom was an alcoholic. Lucy asked me to come with her because she was lonely. My mom wouldn’t miss me so it was o.k. I bet she doesn’t even know I’m gone.”
She felt a pang of sorrow for the little boy, “I’m sorry, Seth.”
“It’s o.k. If Lucy hadn’t raised me since I was five I wouldn’t have been as powerful as I am today.” Seth skipped ahead. Lucy had used him and trained him now that made sense.
