Sage couldn’t bring herself to get up the next morning. The velvety bedding underneath her and the sent of clean laundry reminded her so much of her missed home. She grabbed the pillow underneath her long blonde hair and scrunched it up so it was even softer than before. It was cold in the house although it was summer, so a wool blanket was wrapped around Chelsea and Sage on the couch and one around Calvin on the floor trapping their body heats under the coverlets.

On the wall of the living room hung a wooden old-fashioned German cuckoo clock with bronze chains and gold acorn shaped weights hanging beneath it. As soon as the long arrow pointed at the twelve a small blue jay appeared outside the door and whistled a short tune bringing Calvin into consciousness. He groggily wiped his eyes so he could look closely at the clock. The smaller arrow was pointing directly at the eight and the long arrow covered half of the twelve.

Calvin jumped to his feet in a hurry only to fall back down again because his feet were twisted in the heavy blanket. He took the blanket and folded it neatly than placed it on the other red velvet chair in the room.

He tiptoed over to the girls and tapped them each on the shoulder, “Guys, it’s eight o’clock. If we don’t hurry we’re going to miss the train.” Calvin spoke normally hoping his voice would wake them up. Seeing Sage peer open one eye made him backup and look over to the computer in the corner of the tight spaced living room. He walked over and touched the tip of the grey computer mouse making the computer screen come to life.

Sage, who was already half awake, sat up instantly observing her surroundings. Chelsea on the other hand was slower, only moving a fraction moaning once she finally sat upright.

“What time did you say it was?” Sage asked removing the blanket and putting it on the side of the couch.

“Eight,” Calvin’s voice was frantic. “We have to hurry. I’m looking at the train’s time right now on Cassandra’s computer and there’s a train leaving for Colorado at nine today, but if we don’t hurry we’ll miss it.”

“Okay, just let me change my clothes for once,” Sage got up from the couch grabbing her backpack. “And I’d like to use an actual toilet.”

Sage walked around the corner of the living room and into the only bathroom on the first floor. The walls were an ugly shade of yellow and the tile on the floor was red. Sage used the toilet then leaned over the flower shaped sink. The cold water felt great as she washed the dirt that was coated over her face. Once it was clean she could see her gray eyes more clearly and the heart shape of her upper lip. If only she had mascara Sage found herself thinking. If she had mascara over the blonde eyelashes of her upper lid than her eyes would look bigger. She would be prettier she thought. She threw on a green and black striped shirt and black pants with a small hole in the left knee. Sage wished she had boots, but the only foot wear she had acquired before she left the safe house were a pair of gray sneakers.

Chelsea changed into a red shirt with a peace sign on it. Once they were all changed they were about to leave when Calvin remembered something.

“We should take some food. You said we were low. We could probably fill up our water bottles too,” Calvin turned around and stormed into the kitchen. Sitting on the table was a pile of bags packed with ambrosia and seven water bottles full of sweet smelling nectar.

A woman with blue eyes and red hair kept in curls stood at the kitchen window looking out. She was wearing a blue dress that flowed behind her.

“You must leave young demigod. Take the food and get as far away from here as you can,” she spoke in Greek.

“You’re Cassandra from the legends. Princess of Troy who was given the gift of prophecy from Apollo for your beauty.” Calvin stood still in awe.
