Sam's POV

"It's been a week, Darren! Whole damn week! Why aren't you taking this seriously at all?"

"Oh come on!"-he debates slurping already warm beer from a can,-"it's not the first time he goes out and doesn't come back. Maybe he found another girl to fuck and is now having fun like a good boy."

"He never was gone for whole week before. Something's wrong. I'm telling you, man!"

"Nothing's wrong, Sam. He's just going nuts because we didn't find the girl. This is new for all of us. I see it this way- he needs time to mourn. Something is stolen? Missing from him? Voila- he goes psychotic. It's not new at all."

"Don't know,"-i wave my palm and slop on the chair. I didn't try my breakfast yet, as much as anyone. Paul and Luke is cleaning up the labs, while the others are elsewhere, doing God knows what. "Something is wrong, I can feel it! He never left us for this long, his phone is dead for days I can't trace a signal even with our tracking techniques, it's like he got swallowed into the ground. Maybe he's hurt? Dead even? He didn't come back from the woods that night."

"Hey chill, ok. Maybe we didn't notice, that's all. You know how he is- sneaking in and out." Darren stands up and approaches me. His voice is sounding a bit odd. "What could possibly happen to him? He's like a snake, can get his ass out of any situation."

Suddenly the door snaps open and Jake steps inside, making my jaw hang. "Hey, no news?"-he asks out of nowhere.

"Great!"-Darren slops his arms in annoyance and quickly turns to face Jake. "Now you listening? Did you hear anything about privacy?"

"Honestly,"-i trail,-"even if we let you out, it doesn't mean everything's back to where it was. Not until Haynes is back, at least."

"I get it, Sam!"-Jake reasons. "But still I care about him, you know it."

"Yeah",-i sigh and fill my mug with coffee. "We all do."

However, it seem that Darren isn't fine with any of it. "Bullshit!"-he yells,-"He's happy because of Haynes is probably dead now, just like Sam said, isn't that right, buddy?" Sharp Darren's eyes gaze at Jake with such hate I can't even dare to face, it's like he's about to rip his head off. "You fuckin' prick don't know what's happening. If it wasn't for you playing white prince, she would be here now and Haynes wouldn't go off!"

"You say it's my fault, you peace of shit?!" Jake roars and grips Darren by his collars, while Darren yanks at Jake in a heartbeat and all hell breaks loss again. I try to pull him away off of Jake, but he keeps on smashing his face. "Knock it off, you two pricks!"

I know it's not gonna end well. Darren is a lot stronger and honestly- Jake wouldn't stand a chance.

"Motherfucker is dead and it's your fault!"-Darren screams.

Ok, so i'm getting paranoid. Just a minute ago he was convincing me that Haynes is alive and fine, but now? Now he's trying to make us think elsewise. "Why would you think this way, Darren?"

"Just teasing the both of you!"-he hits Jake for one last time and backs off, grabbing his can of beer. "My boy is searching for the bitch, I assure you. Just because this sorry ass couldn't keep his mouth shut. And now what? What? Poor skank got you all so depresive? Tell me Jake, why did you let her out? Did you honestly think she would repay you with sex?"

"Why are you saying this? She's just a kid, God!"

"Yeah, kid, right. All she did back there was swaying around with her ass here and there. No wonder everyone wanted to fuck around. But you, my friend,"-he points a finger at Jake's bleeding mouth,-"you wanted to risk it, didn't you? You wanted her for yourself."

"You jerk, Darren!"-now I hiss. This is getting way too far. "Maybe you were the only one thinking this way. We all know you too good. But i... I couldn't do it, neither Jake. So stop talking shit!"

"Bullshit!"

Jake wipes the blood with his sleeve and turns to the door. "I don't wanna be part of this any longer. Sam, let me know if Chad comes back."

"When he comes back."

Darren starts laughing, while we both pin our eyes on Jake leaving. "You were saying? Mind your own business, Jake! You done enough damage for all of us. Let me remind you- if cops gonna get to us, your sorry ass would be the first to take the guilt."

"I don't wanna fight you anymore, D!"

"Oh come on! You're so tough, big boy, huh? I'll kick your ass faster than you can vine for your mommy. Sam can't stop me."

"I said stop!"-i stand up from my seat and slap the table fiercely, making the two of them shut up for a second.

"Yeah, Jaky! Get the fuck away! Go play hero elsewhere! You're not welcome here any longer."

I try to calm down. I'm done with this drama for today. "You know what?"-i hiss again and push Jake away of the doorframe. "To hell with you both. I'm outta here.

"Fine, fuck it!"

*****

All I really needed at the moment was to calm down and to catch my breath. That's why without even noticing myself, I appeared right at the doorstep of Tess's house.

Same abandoned yard, same bunch of cats taking a nap on the terrace is making me some kind of relieved.

She opened the door right before I was about to knock. Her doorbell never worked, instead of the ordinary button there was a wire poking from the black hole of the rotting wooden facade.

And I stepped inside. She didn't ask anything, to my biggest relief, just pushed me towards the stairs and straight to her bedroom.

In an hour of passionate kissing, she finally snaps her eyes at me. "Your friend is still missing?- Tess asks me, as her fingertips teasingly rubs the skin on my chest.

I, however, lay naked on her bed and fume inside. I needed to get away from Darren. Lately he was making me more nervous.

"Yeah."

"Wanna talk about this?"- she whispers and her soft wet lips starts crawling down my torso.

"No!"-i snap rather harshly, without a second to think.

Tess pulls her head up at me and I can see she's not satisfied. I'm being rude jerk. "Wow. Your sharp honesty is really making a big impression on girls, I bet."

"Sorry. Really. I'm just not myself lately. I'm going crazy." I pull her hand and kiss her fingertips. Long red nails with perfect manicure looks impressive, like she could cut throats. "How come being a waitress you're aloud to have such long nails?"

She just smiles and doesn't answer me this weird question. "Are you close? You and your friend who's missing?"

"I don't want to see it this way. He's just off, you know. And yeah. He's...um...well I consider him my closest friend. Probably the only real one i've got."

"Maybe he's just cooling off. You know-because of a break up with the girl you mentioned."

Ok, so this is another naive lie I had to figure out fast. Looks like we're good. "Yeah, you're probably right. He's...impulsive when it comes to girls. I just wish he would tell me anything. Knowing not if he's ok making me crazy."

"Sorry.."

I breath out and force a smile. "You know what- life's too short to mourn over something that didn't even happen."

Tess gives me the most brightest smile ever, the one that really would make my day. "Couldn't tell better myself."

I pull away the sheet covering my naked hips and wink for Tess. "How about you hop on and make me feel a bit better?"

"A lot better,"-she moans and crawls on top of me. And I know, that whatever she's doing to me tonight, it would make me forget not just Darren's attitude, but also Haynes as well.
