In the late evening, when the darkness settled the kingdom, huge red blinking body in the sky, that didn't even remind me Sun, settled behind the dry woods.

I stood patiently by the window, examining my whereabouts and looking for the way to escape. Again.

The evil souls, that were chaotically infesting the lands hours ago, disappeared out of my site and only few guards were left to mingle among defense towers.

From the far distance, out of the darkness of the woods, one by one yellow eyes blinked and along came furry bodies. Their huge paws with sharp nails carefully trimmed upon the gravel as if afraid to make a sound, while their warily set pairs of black ears kept clipping to every movement around. Their teeth were shining by the subtle torches light, that lined the defense fences, and hungry stares made a sudden whoosh of freezing wind pass through my skin.

Wolves.

"Go, my lovely children!"-unfamiliar voice roared and I looked around quickly, trying to predict the direction it was coming from,-"feast tonight!"

My eyes squirmed, trying to see better from afar, but the owner of the voice was nowhere to be seen.

Those wolves slowly piled into the fenced territory. There were hundreds of them, making the ground underneath get colored in black furry spots.

At first the wolves sneaked around carefully, warily, as if observing everything around. But then in seconds they stopped and sharp teeth pearced out of their black jaws again.

There were corpses laying on the ground, that were brutally murdered just moments ago. Frighten screams now were hushed down and the kingdom drifted in silence. The atmosphere was thick with tension, as if something really tragic was about to happen.

Some of the corpses led in bloody mess of their flesh and guts, while others led peacefully with their limbs torn apart and scaterred in every possible direction.

One arm by the river, the leg with poking stump of a bone, twisted in bleeding knot, led beside the distant fence, along with the torso of ravaged person.

But most of those people didn't move. However, there were few slowly crawling towards the boiling river, dragging peaces of their flesh along.

In few moments a guard would step forth and with motionless face would grab the body from the ground, dagger it with some shiny sharp weapon and throw the poor body into the river.

The river then started to boil harder, as if disturbed, trying to swallow the drifting body and get rid of any evidence. And then the white mist would shoot into the air, dragging a black substance along, that would disappear in seconds.

And then the guard would get back to his tower and seriously examine the other side of the fence. As if waiting for something, he would check his weapons, his armory again and again.

I watched the whole act of the guards for another time, considering various ideas of what was there happening and whom the guards were waiting for.

But today was different.

I knew it the second wolves came from the darkness. I never saw them before and even if hesitating, I couldn't force myself to look away.

The wolves sneaked around each body divided in pairs, silently grunting at the pile of flesh. They circled each pray for seconds and then, when the barely alive body made a movement, they yanked forth all together and ripped into the throats. Muffled sobs left the prays lips along with the sound of breaking necks and then the bloody feast started.

Crunching awfully loud, the wolves were tearing the remains of the people in peaces, eating greedily and grunting at each other.

Some of them, smaller ones, were circling around carefully, keeping a distance and feasting upon the body parts, that led lifeless by the river, while the older, bigger ones, were killing the ones, who were still alive.
