HOGWARTS SCHOOLGIRL AMONG THE MISSING FROM THE CHRISTMAS EVE ATTACK
A sixteen year-old Hogwarts student has been reported among the missing from the Death Eater Muggle attack that took place yesterday on London’s South Bank.
Lexi Layyer, a sixth year, was believed to be in the Muggle territories of London doing some Christmas shopping with her older brother, although it is unknown why they had ventured out of wizarding areas.
The Christmas Eve Death Eater Attack occurred at 2:05p.m. right outside the famous Muggle tourist attraction, the London Eye. It is unknown how many Death Eaters were involved but the death toll currently stands at 11 Muggles and is steadily rising.
Lexi’s brother, Alex, 19, is listed among the injured. His body was discovered shortly after the attack was over, heavily bloodied and injured, and unconscious. He has since been admitted to St. Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries.
“Mr. Layyer’s injuries have been very serious and although we are doing all we can, it is unknown whether he will survive,” a Healer released a statement earlier this morning. “It is thought that the next couple of days will be crucial for him. He may make a recovery but there is a chance he will never wake up. But there is still hope for him”
If Alex were not to survive the incident, it would perhaps be a comfort to his mother Flora, 42, to know that her son died a death while fighting to save the lives of others.
A Muggle survivor, a mother of three whose memory of the incident has since been wiped, revealed in an interview with Aurors that a young man saved her and her son’s life shortly before he was hit by a spell.
The woman, who remains unnamed for her own safety, was out shopping with her youngest son when the Death Eater attack occurred.
“A handsome young man who looked younger than twenty had been standing right next to us, and when the attacks broke out he took one look at my son and I and shouted for me to get down. We did so and green jets of light started flashing everywhere. My son started crying, but he pointed a long wooden stick at us and shouted something in a language I did not understand.
“A flash of bright, transparent blue light streamed towards us and I thought he was like the others who were producing light, and trying to harm us. But the light hadn’t seemed to cause any damage. “Stay there and don’t move! Stay on the ground!” He called to us, and then he ran away. I think he cast more light on others nearby too.
“It was like the light had somehow cast a protective force field over us. All the falling debris seemed to spring off the air surrounding me and my son and light cast in our direction simply bounced away.
“I tried searching for this young man later on but I couldn’t find him. My son says that he heard the young man call the name “Lexi” and run into the middle of the flashing lights shortly after he cast the blue light upon us. I wanted to find him and thank him because he saved me and my son’s life.”
It is understood that Alex cast a very powerful Protego spell on the woman and her son, amongst a few others nearby. This honorable action not only displays his courage but his excellent magical skills, as a Protego charm capable of deflecting spells as powerful as the Killing Curse must be very powerful.
If Alex does die, it can be some comfort to his mother Flora, 42, to know that Alex died a death as honorable as his father.
Jack Layyer was killed in a Death Eater attack very similar to the one that took place yesterday afternoon. He, like Alex, was a young Auror with his whole life ahead of him. He died saving the lives of others, leaving his young wife a widow and his three-year-old son without a father. Jack never knew that his wife Flora was actually expecting his second child, a little girl, at the time of his death.
Alex, who finished his studies at Hogwarts with top N.E.W.T grades and a Head Boy badge last July, is considered to be crucial in getting new information on the location of his sister. Although Alex’s body was quickly found amongst the injured victims of the Death Eater attack, Lexi’s body seems to have completely disappeared. The only evidence that she was there at all is that a wand quickly identified as hers was discovered under the rubble at the scene of the attack.
Lexi and Alex were in the middle of celebrating the Christmas holidays with their mother at the Leaky Cauldron, the famous London wizard pub where Flora has been living permanently ever since her husband died over sixteen years ago. She works as a bar-maid and is close friends with the landlord, Tom. Although Flora has been unable for comment ever since her son was identified as among the wounded and her daughter’s wand was also found, Tom has since spoken out about the tragedy.
“Ever since her husband died, Flora’s children have been her whole life,” he spoke out in a statement this morning. “The idea that they too might now be snatched away from her as Jack Layyer was almost seventeen years ago is too cruel a thought to bear.”
Flora was very excited that her son had recently started training as an Auror at the Ministry of Magic, he stated. “He was following the footsteps of his father, a fact she was insanely proud of,” he said. “Alex is a very talented young wizard. He has his whole future ahead of him and she is understandably devastated at this time, and at the idea he might suffer from an almost identical early death just like Jack did."
“As for Lexi, I speak for both Flora and myself when I beg anyone who might have any information concerning her whereabouts. She is a very lively, bright and warm young witch who has the potential to be just as talented as her brother and we are determined to find her.”
Although anyone is quick to make assumptions when it is still early days after the attack, it is feared Lexi’s body was hit by a Killing Curse so powerful that her body was destroyed; a fate that could mean the death toll is much higher than estimated at the moment.
At this time the only way to access information is to wait until the investigations have been completed, for her brother to perhaps gain consciousness and reveal crucial information to his sister’s location, or for someone to step forward. If anyone has seen or heard from, or has any information that may help the search for Lexi Layyer, they are urged to step forward.
