Chapter 31 - Tess

Niall Kissed me and I drifted off to sleep feeling the rise and fall of his chest. I don't know how long I slept for but I was being woken up. The steady beating of Nialls heartbeat beneath my head reminded me of the position we were in and what we did last night. I opened my eyes and I saw the massive fishtank that was before me. 

I smiled at the memories that flooded into my head from last night. Swimming with all kinds of marine life, eating dinner in an amazing atmosphere, Niall singing to me and me singing to Niall. His words echoed in my head as I finished the song. "We are falling in love"

Niall stirred underneath me. His eyelids fluttered open showing his crystal blue orbs. I kissed him "morning to you too" he said. I giggled and got off him. A staff member approached us. It was the same one from last night. 

"You're ride is here and you need to leave before 9am". She sassily walked away.

"Someones got attitude" I muttered. Niall chuckled and held my hand. 

"Come one!" he said as he led me through the back of the aquarium. A black car pulled up and the window rolled down. It was Paul. "Paul!" Niall shouted. Paul raised his eyebrows at Niall and we climbed into the car. 

"Can we stop by Starbucks?"

"No. Starbucks is a bit difficult to find in Sydney. How about Gloria Jeans? Its pretty much the same thing, just a different name". Niall looked at me for my approval. I shrugged my shoulders. I couldn't care less. I just want coffee. I ruffled my brown hair and tried to unknot the knots. 

Niall pushed my head onto his shoulder as he stroked my head and hummed in my ear. When we pulled up to the cafe, the smell of coffee beans instantly hit my nose. "Ahhh" I sighed taking in the familiar smell of coffee beans. 

The guy that took our order was pretty attractive...I didn't want to admit it though. "May I help you?" He asked as he looked up from the cash register. His mouth hung open but I ignored it. 

"Can I have a chocolate muffin, a cappuccino and an iced coffee please?" he didn't move or respond. "OI!" I yelled making the whole cafe look at me. He still didn't respond. A girl about my age came out from behind him and typed in our order. 

"Sorry about Max..." she apologised as she started getting our order together. "That will be $20.45 please" she added with a smile. I gave her  the money and took the food and coffee. Niall and I had started walking to the door when Max stopped us. "Hey girl. Can I" he started. Niall held my hand to signal Max that we were together. He didn't get the message. Nialls arm then snaked around my waist. I squeezed his hand in an attempt to comfort him.

Max kept trying to get my number. I stuck my foot out so he tripped over it. Niall and I ran back to the car. Niall and I laughed. "Oh that was good Tess" he laughed. I loved Nialls laugh. He kissed me and I kissed back until Paul interupted. 

"HEY! No sex in the back seat!"

"Why does everyone think that we are going to have sex everytime we kiss?"

"Well..." Paul started. He never finished. 

"ACHOO!" I sneezed. I felt a tickle in my throat. I coughed to try fix it but it wouldn't go away. I suddenly felt very dizzy and hot. "N-Niall?" I whimpered.

"PAUL! SOMETHING IS HAPPENING TO TESS!" Niall yelled. I tried squeezing my eyes shut but that only gave me a headache. 

"W-what's happ-ening t-to me?" I stuttered. 

"Shhhh...It's gonna be alright"

- Niall -

I cradled Tess in my arms. She was going pale and sweaty. She was fine a second ago. "W-what's happ-ening t-to me?" she stuttered. 

"Shhhh...It's gonna be alright" I said as she closed her eyes. She shivered and I rubbed my arms to create some heat. 

"NO!" she screamed. "AHHHHH! DON'T T-TOUCH M-ME! I DIDN'T D-DO ANYTHING!" she started screaming. She grabbed her head and pulled at her hair. "NO!" I hugged her like my life depended on it. 

She soon calmed down and I started singing to her. I looked down and her brown eyes were dull. Her golden flecks were gone. What's happening. I kissed her forehead and felt her body go limp in my arms. 

"PAUL! Hospital! NOW!" Paul rushed to the closest hospital and I called the boys so they could spread the word to Cara and Iz. My head was spinning. So much was going on at once. Tess was unconcious, nurses and doctors were rushing about, Tess was being pulled away from me being put onto a bed. The doors slammed open. I spun around to see all my friends. Tears slipped out of my eyes. Cara, Iz and Harry had nothing but shock and fear written on their faces. 

I dropped to my knees punching the ground. Harry came and hugged me. I cried on his shoulder. "Shhh. Mate, it's not your fault". I didn't reply. Cara and Iz were starting to cry too. Their boyfriends pulled them in to comfort them. I pulled away from the hug and patted Harry on the shoulder. 

I took a deep breath and ran my hands through my hair in frustration. I sat down on the uncomfortable plastic seats. My friends all came around and comforted me. We sat there in silence like statues. I just stared at the black specked floor with no emotion written on my face. 

Did I do something? Was it Tess' condition? She was fine the second before she started going weak and sweaty. The same scene replayed in me head over and over again like a broked record. "NO! AHHHHH! DON'T T-TOUCH M-ME! I DIDN'T D-DO ANYTHING!" The picutre of Tess pulling at her hair with her pale and sweaty face. Her hair matted against her skin. 

"Niall. Stop. You're going to hurt yourself" I snapped back into reality. I realised I was digging my nails into the palms of my hands. Harry pulled me up. "Come on. Let's go for a walk". He led me out of the doors and into the refreshing cool air. I took a deep breath. "See mate? Some colour has come back into your face" Harry said. 

There were a few moments of silence. "You really love her don't you?"

"Y-yeah. I do. I just don't understand what happened"

"Niall. Stop. It's not your fault and it could've been anything"

"How do you know that?" I asked in confusion. My vision was getting blurry due to my tears. I dropped my head down so Harry couldn't see my face. Instead he pulled me in for another hug.

I wrapped my arms around Niall's shaking figure. We stayed like that for a good seven minutes. He pulled away and sniffled. My phone vibrated in my pocket and I pulled it out. It was Liam. 

Harry, 

Niall's phone is off so tell him that Tess is alright and the doctors wish to see him. Tess is still unconsious but only for the next few minutes.

Liam

"Hey Niall? Tess is still unconsious but only for the next few minutes. The doctors want to speak with you"

He looked up at me with wide questioning eyes. I nodded at him slightly, reassuring him. My arm slung around his shoulders as we walked back into the dreaded building. A doctor was talking to Liam. Liam looked at Niall and then me. His face was unreadable. I hope everything is okay. Niall approached Liam and the doctor. Liam patted Niall on the back and smiled reassuringly. 

- Niall -

"So, what happened to Tess?"

"We are not sure at the moment but would you like to tell me what happened?"

"Well we were getting breakfast at Gloria Jeans and then this guy Max from the cash register kept asking for Tess' number. She tripped him over and we laughed and got into the car. She started sneezing and coughing. Then I felt her go weak and sweaty. She started yelling NO! AHHHHH! DON'T T-TOUCH M-ME! I DIDN'T D-DO ANYTHING! Then she went silent. A few minutes later she went limp in my arms"

"Ok. To me its sounds like she was hallucinating from a possible fever or sickness. What were you doing the night before?"

"I took Tess on a date to the aquarium. We went swimming with the marine life and I sang her a song and we slept in the aquarium infront of the big tank" I explained

"I'll have to get some blood tests and I'll get back to you"
